Great recipe but like many other people I have to agree that if you leave out the lemon zest and juice you will enjoy it much more. The lemon overpowers the cinnamon and apple flavor which to me is what apple crisp is all about. If I wanted to taste citrus, then I'd make citrus crisp. (adding a little more cinnamon would help as well

This is the best apple crisp ever! The topping is so crispy and I served it with vanilla ice cream.

This is better than any apple dessert I have ever had. The crumble topping is amazing and I could eat that on its own.

This recipe is SO good that I am moved to stop and take the time to sit down (despite the fact that my children are running around the house like little tornadoes to urge others to make Ina's Apple Crisp. It is unbelievably good, just as it is written. Thank you Ina!

Made this last night, it is a beautiful recipe as written. I made the addition of 1 c chopped toasted pecans (for the toasty flavor and 1/4 t cardamom to the crisp batter (to highlight the citrus. We too served it with good vanilla ice cream. Thanks, Ina for another winner!

Throw out every recipe you have on apple crisp--possibly even your favorite old standby. My review is absolutely honest in that no changes were made to the written recipe. All ingredients called for went in--no more, no less, nothing extra. I was about to try the Neely's apple crisp recipe but the heavens must have steered me away from it and thank God!!! In this recipe some people left out the orange and lemon peel and the juices but that is a big mistake. Don't leave out anything and put in the extra effort and it will pay off big time! Ina's apple crisp is pure perfection made exactly as written. Alongside a couple of scoops of good quality rich vanilla ice cream, this apple crisp is over the top. Thanks Ina for a fantastic recipe.

Absolutely off the hook goodness. One of the best I've ever had. Didnt use the orange zest or juice, but the recipe still rocks. Rock on Ina!!
