Great recipe! My only complaint was that my apples were still a little hard, but I probably should've sliced them smaller or added more baking time - maybe I should've used a larger dish, too. I added a small amount of cardamom, and only used a small amount of zest. All in all - excellent tasting recipe, even with slight modifications. Thanks Ina!

I made the apple crisp recipe last Thanksgiving and made it in the morning but did not bake it. I put it in the oven as we sat down to eat and it turned out great! On one of the episodes or maybe her book she says how it can all be put together early and even baked the next day. You do not need to keep the apples seperate from the topping until baking. I think it is easier to put it all together as the topping might get too hard to easily spread over the top if it sits in a bowl in the fridge. Hope this helps. ENJOY!

Has anyone done this as a make-ahead by prepping the apples and topping hours in advance, keeping them separate in the fridge until just before baking? I want to make this for Thanksgiving but worry that if I bake it in the morning or early afternoon, it will get soggy. I would like to prep the two parts in the morning, assemble just as we are sitting down, bake during dinner. Thoughts? Seems like it should work, but would appreciate the voice of someone who has done this. Thanks!

WOW, I absolutely love this apple crisp. I have made it several times and it has become a family favorite. I had to own up to the fact that it isn't my recipe when a family member commented and said I made the best apple crisp she has ever tasted! : Ina is truly my cooking hero.

Amazing Apple Crisp! This recipe is so delicious and easy to make (my 3 year old helped me. I used Jonagold apples and made half the recipe. I also used allspice instead of nutmeg. The apple crisp had a perfectly crispy topping, right seasoning and the apples were very tender (with no excess water. This is a new Fall favorite in our house. Thank you Ina for another great recipe!
