I made this yesterday to take to friends for Thanksgiving. It was awesome. I used Honey Crisp apples (sadly the season is short and they were delicious. I cut the apples in thinner slices and layered them. I omitted the sugar since honey crisp are sweet enough. They held their shape very well and the taste and texture was perfect. I also added a little ginger to the crisp, only because ginger always adds a little something to the taste. I'd definitely make this again but will add a little more oatmeal to make it a more crunchy. We have left overs for today and that'll be an evening treat.

This was one of the most successful dishes of our thanksgiving dinner and the only thing I made. I partially heeded the advice of those who hated the orange and/or lemon additions. I only used half the orange juice and lemon juice the recipe called for. We could all still taste a hint of orange and everyone enjoyed that part. I fear it would've overpowered the apple flavor if I used the full amount. Anyway, awesome recipe. The most time consuming part for myself was making the apple slices. I also recommend after peeling coring and slicing the apples you slice them again into bite size pieces. Everyone around the table struggled to cut the apples in half with their forks. But it tasted amazing never the less. Definitely will make this one again!

DO NOT ADD THE ORANGE ZEST OR ORANGE JUICE! Terrible with the orange. Could not eat it. Usually love Barefoot recipes. What a disappointment.

Love this recipe!!! I've used it many times, even using other seasonal fruits (like blueberries and it always comes out amazing. I cut back on the sugar, because I find it overly sweet if you don't, but that's just my preference. Every time I make this I get tons of compliments. I love it because it's so easy to make and even more delicious to eat!

Absolutely amazing! I reduced the butter and sugar content... Settled on low fat granola I already had and it still made the whole house smell wonderful for 2 days! yum yum.

I helped my sister make this when I was visiting MA during apple picking season. We used Macouns direct from the orchard. I come from a family of foodies and we all loved this. We all liked the added citrus and the topping was great. Now I'm back in So Ca and lamenting that I cannot find Macouns in our grocery stores. I can get MacIntosh but I'm concerned that they'll get too mushy. The stores here usually have Galas and Fujis, sometimes Jonathans, usually Granny Smith and those detested (by me Delicious. I doubt anything will approach the just picked Macouns but what would work best from those I can get here? Thoughts anyone? Thanks!

Really good, although I made a few changes. I added some pears, and left out the orange, although I'm sure it would be delicious too. I also added some extra oatmeal to the topping, because it seemed like a lot of butter to me. Served it with the vanilla ice cream she made on the same show, which took it from good to amazing.
