Oh my gosh! I built this last night for my guests... and I can still taste it! I must say the freshly grated nutmeg does make a lovely difference ... One of the guests asked if he could take"just a little home"....ended up taking quite a bit!,he said he wanted to have it for breakfast this morning! I will be doing this one again.... Yummm!!!

I baked this exactly how it said, but i didnt have a lemon but i had lemon juice, so i didnt use the zest. Also i cooked it a little less than it said to bake it. and i used a little less apples, so it kinda turned into an apple crumble hah, But it turned out amazing! i added my own little improv by sprinkling brown sugar on top of the apples after i put them into the pan, then i put the topping on and it makes it all carmely and yummy! /mmmmmm/ it was amazing. all my friends loved it and i had to make another batch just to feed them all!!!!! great recipe and i recommend this to everyone!!!!!

I GAVE THIS 1 STAR AS THE RECIPE IS PRINTED~ please read.....I followed the recipe EXACTLY and the citrus flavor was HORRIBLE. An apple Crisp should be rich and comforting~ the citrus flavor did not compliment this dish at all, it ruined it. My family was so excited to eat it, the house smelled so good~ to watch everyones face when they had taken their first bite was comical! My 18 year old son told me that the flavor was all wrong~ he said it BEST! He was expecting, "pie in a bowl" instead he said it tasted like oranges and lemons. YUCK!
SOOOOOOOOOO........ tonignt I made this recipe again and I would give it 5 STARS *****
I took out the orange and only added 2 T of lemon juice and a Tablespoon of flour to the apples to thicken the juice! The simple changes made this Apple crisp ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!!!!
    HAPPY FALL :

I absolutely loved the topping for this recipe however I felt the citrus flavor on the apples was a little overpowering. I will make the crisp again but omit the zest from the lemon and orange (I will keep the lemon and orange juice.

Thanks for the tasty recipe Ina!! I cut the recipe down to make enough for only 2 of us. I used 2 large organic Fuji apples (that I already had and I didn't have any oranges so only used a lemon and not too much of it's juice though...it turned out wonderful anyway! The zest of the lemon just adds more flavor but I like how it's not noticeable once cooked with all other ingredients! Can't wait to try making it again using the orange zest/juice as well! My husband and I really enjoyed this very comforting dessert!

I used Granny Smith Apples since I didn't have many choices, so I went a pinch short on each citrus addition. This came out fabulously! It was easy, delicious & a bit different (in a good way!. Saving this one & will be making again.

I think this is a fabulous recipe and have made it many times. There are a few alterations that I think make it turn out a lot better. It needs a bit of cornstarch for the apple mix. And I also add vanilla extract, and sugar, if the apples are very tart.

This was GREAT! My entire family loved this, even my pickiest eater. Yummmm. The citrus is what sets it apart from an ordinary apple crisp.

This is absolutely my favorite apple crisp recipe! I have tried tons and tons of apple crisp recipes, but none have tasted quite like Ina's. Everyone loved it, and my grandpa even told me that he liked it better than the apple pie I serve at Christmas! It truly is a great recipe and I can't wait to make it again.
