A wonderful apple crisp recipe! I did add some ingredients that I think moves it from "old fashioned" to contemporary. To the topping I added about 1/3 cup chopped candied ginger (the size of a large pea. The ginger is a delicious complement to the crunchiness of the topping and sweetness of the apples. To the apples I added about 1/2 cup walnuts. The dish got rave reviews around the table!

This was excellent! The only change I would make for next time when I make it is I would only put in the zest of half of an orange. I felt the orange zest competed with the cinnamon flavor just a little. But this is definately a recipe I must make again. I should also note that this recipe translates beautifully to gluten free. I made this with gluten free flour (and gluten free oats, and no one even knew.

All I can say is fabulous. All her recipes are fantastic. The only thing I would add is a little more cinnamon, that's just how I like my apples!

I've made this crisp many times, and it is fool proof! I've always put the citrus in, but I think it would be delicious if you left it out.

Made this for a Gaming night at a friends house. I doubled the recipe because well, we are guys. hehe Me and the guys finished the entire thing over the night and they begged me to make more next time. The citrus was a nice contrast to the sweetness of the apples and the topping. Definatly adding this one to my Dessert box.

I brought this dessert to our neighbor's SuperBowl Party and it definitely scored a touchdown. Topping it with French Vanilla ice cream added the extra point! I highly recommend following the recipe exactly and you won't be sorry. You know it's good when you see people going back for seconds. I will be making this dish again and again. Ina you are the BEST and I love ALL your recipes!

I love Ina and almost all of her recipes but this one didn't come out good for me. I hate the taste of orange zest in any recipe (but that's just my preference and should have left it out. But though I followed the recipe exactly, the topping was too powdery. I think that it needed a lot more butter or something to make it stick together. Will move on to another recipe next time.

I took this to a get-together and since I have a reputation of bringing good desserts, I was anxious to see how this was received. (it's not that I'm a great baker, I just find good recipes!
It was a little too tart for us, so next time I will cut back on the zest. The topping is wonderful. Most apple crisp toppings end up too moist but this is fabulous. Must be because of the cold butter. I will not use another Apple Crisp recipe, but for my taste, I will cut back on the citrus.

Absolutely delicious! The citrus juices and zest work really well. The next time I make this I will definitely add a little bit less sugar. Other than that this was amazing and so easy!
