Ina I'm a huge fan of you , I love all what you do and I watch your show every day , this apple cisp came out INCREDIBLE , absloutley yumiiiiiii , I made it for my in-laws and every one went crazy about it.I have made a few changes though , added only a pinch of lemon & orange zest , a tsp of both of lemon & orange juice , added a pinch of all spice .It's the best , defenetly I'm doing it more , and the cold butter with the dough , made it come out flaky and light .Love you Ina!

too citrus-y. I'm not a big fan of the lemon/orange flavor to start, and I think the zest puts it over the top. I might omit the zest next time.

I, too, cut back on the sugar... and butter halving them. Ice cream makes up the difference. Wonderful recipe and easy to whip up.

Since finding this recipe around Thanksgiving time this year, I've made it 4 times for various functions and parties. It's consistently a big hit and there are no leftovers. I've played with the amounts of sugars and cinnamon/nutmeg, and the type of lemon and orange, as well as the amount of butter in the topping. The best so far has been with navel orange and a home-grown lemon, type unknown, from my son's tree - it's the juiciest and most sweet-tart lemon I've ever used and makes a big difference in the taste of the crisp. This is now a go-to dessert recipe for me for guests, and just comfort food during the snowy winter months. Thanks, Ina!!

Just wonderful! I made this for Christmas Eve and it was such a hit. I served it with vanilla ice cream and everyone raved about it. I think it's the orange and nutmeg that really put it over the top. I will make this again and again.

I've always loved Marie Calenders Dutch Apple Pie, but it wasn't home made, so I was never too crazy about it (I'm a bit of a purist, this apple crisp is even better. Not just because it's home made (With all of the love!, but because it doesn't have that crust. Frozen pies always have a chalky crust and a frozen taste, if you have a sensitive palette it tastes like a syrupy sludge, this is because home made pies use the natural juice produced by the apple's with the sugars when their bakes, rather than just throwing apples into a pre-cooked apple flavored jam. A lot of people don't notice this, but, again, if you have a good palette, you will taste nothing more than a sweet syrupy sludge.

Too sweet for my taste. I thought the recipe was good, but needed less sugar.

Delicious! Instead of bothering with apple pies, I'm making this for Christmas. It's easy and very tasty, a big hit. The large cut of apples and the citrus in the background make it an excellent vehicle for vanilla ice cream!

Ina, I just made your old fashioned apple crisp recipe and it came out wonderfull. I had to substitute McIntosh apples with Granny Smith apples, I couldn't find any here. But OMG, it is so good!!!! I did add 3 Tblsps of flour to the apples and it was great!!!! My husband loves it!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!! I watch your show everyday !!!!!
