Ok..Coming from someone that CANNOT BAKE OR COOK AT ALL, these are THE BEST BROWNIES EVER and really not hard to make at all...Time consuming, yes, but WELL WORTH IT :D... Ive never really been one to like brownies, mainly because the one's Ive eaten have always been dry or rock hard... But these brownies are heavenly!! My hunny is a TOTAL CHOCOHOLIC and these goodies quenched his addiction..temporarily ...Lets just say I am definitley going to be making these babies over the holidays! THANKS IDA!

My mother-in-law made these and they were wonderful. There is a LOT of dark chocolate in this recipe, so if you don't like dark chocolate flavor, maybe sub 2 cups of milk chocolate chips for the 2 cups of semi-sweet chips. The coffee brings out the flavor of the chocolate. These are not super-sweet brownies, but very rich and very chocolatey (some are saying too chocolatey -- is that possible?!?!.

For those who had trouble with the clarity itself, it seems that Ina or the folks at FN heard you and re-posted the recipe (same title -- just different level of difficulty and clarifications in the directions. In the butter mixture you melt 1 lb. of the semi-sweet chips. Make sure you COOL this mixture COMPLETELY before combining with the dry ingredients. Otherwise, you will end up with dry, crumbly and/or greasy brownies.

In the dry step -- use only 1 cup of the flour, reserving 1/4 cup. Before adding the nuts and remaining 12 oz. of chocolate chips, you toss them with the reserved 1/4 cup of flour. This helps suspend the nuts and chocolate chips in the batter so that they don't fall to the bottom.

This recipe is a little more work than most, but if you enjoy that rich chocolate flavor in a chewy brownie, then it is worth it. Hope this helps a little.

Everyone raved about these brownies! They were huge, nutty, dense and outrageously chocolatey. They were also outrageously costly to make. I had to buy the chocolate, nuts, butter, eggs, instant coffee and a pan to cook them in, actually 2 smaller inexpensive pans. It cost $40 at Kroger. I took them to a tailgating party, so I packed them in a cooler with ice packs because I was afraid they would melt. They were impressive to serve, but I probably won't make them again because of the cost and time it took to make them.

I love Ina and I do not know what I did wrong with this recipe, I followed it to the tee. The brownies just fall apart and are so moist. The looked so good on the episode she made them on. All I left out was the coffee and nuts.

i followed this recipe to the tee. It turned out under baked. It seems that 1/14 cups of flour for 6 eggs and 1 pound of butter may have been the problem. And of course 21/4 cups of sugar plus all that chocolate?? Did I do something wrong?

The coffee flavor was way too strong in the brownies, and I only added one teaspoon. I would recommend leaving the coffee out, if you do not enjoy the flavor of coffee.

This recipe is ridiculously delicious. The brownies turn out so rich and fudgy. Rave reviews from all my friends. Remember to cool the mixture before adding the chocolate chips. So much better than brownies from a box!

These are fantastic. The recipe does require you to use your head a little - but really it is very hard to mess up. Yes - a little time consuming for a brownie recipe and the cost is up there for a homemade dessert - but believe me it is worth every penny. This makes a double sized batch - and - these are so rich that they need to be cut into small squares. I made these for a party and they were the hit! On the way out the door one guest admitted to having several in his pocket for later - can't beat that...
