We Love it! Another keeper recipe from Ina. Taking the time to caramalize the onions well really pays off and the Cayanne Pepper is great in this dip. I'm going to add a bit more next time too.

    Thanks Ina!

This dip is luscious, creamy and mouth watering! The cayenne is a great ingredient as it gives the dip a kick right after you've swallowed! It was devoured in about an hour and there were only about 6 of us! To newer cooks out there - just be patient caramelizing your onions; it takes longer than Ina wrote into the recipe! I will definitely make it again, and double the recipe for larger parties! Make this recipe-people will be in love!

I've made this dip over and over and everyone loves it. We took it with us to Denali Park and it's gone on moose hunting trips and everyone loves it.

leave out the butter to make this "healthier"!!!!!!! saute the onions lightly in olive oil, slowly, and cut all the ingredients to low fat or no fat as i do with the mayo and sour cream! still tastes fantastic and no one even thinks it's low fat!
fabmomof3 - try again, you won't be dissapointed!

I'm sorry because you are my favorite cook to watch but....I tried this last night and between 4 people I was the only person who tried this dip and I wasn't crazy about it at all. I don't know why no one tried it but it looked like butter with sauteed onions. I wonder if I could toast some bread using this spread so I don't have to waste it. I still love Barefoot Contessa and will probably try her recipes more often but this one I definitely won't be trying again. :

This dip is downright heavenly. I mean how could it not be with the amount of butter, oil, cream cheese, and mayo in it. But hey who calorie counts around the holidays anyways! I actually think the recipe would still be delicious without the oil and with 2 tablespoons butter instead of 4. I would definitely recommend making this as an appetizer for friends and family. They will gobble it up in no time!

This was good but not great and not good enough to justify the work. The onions take longer than 20 minutes to caramelize. I made it with the sour cream and mayonaisse (hubby doesn't like cream cheese and served with chips the onions were over powering. Maybe it would taste better with cut vegetables. I won't be making this again.

Excellent and addicting! I did agree with other reviews and cut the butter and oil in half. I could tell it wasn't necessary to have all that extra fat. I also ended up adding 2 ounces of extra cream cheese to cut down on the taste of the mayo. Next time I would just cut the mayo in half. Overall very good and a real crowd pleaser!
