This is the best dip. I bring it to parties and it's always a smash hit. Don't reduce the amount of vegetable oil! You NEED that oil to carry the delicious flavors! If you want to reduce fat, you can substitute Greek yogurt for the sour cream and even the cream cheese! I did it once and it was STILL awesome! Just look at the chobani Greek yogurt conversion chart.

This is a really excellent onion dip! I made it several times and loved it every time. I did find that after a while I started to omit the 1/4 cup of the vegetable oil because after cooking the onions in the oil and the butter I was left with too much oil in the finished product. Just using the butter still caramelized them. I also cut the onions into quarter rounds for easier eating. The amount of salt and pepper in the ingredients worked out well. Great recipe and easy to make.

This dip is insanely good! I sauteed the onions low and slow for about 40 minutes to really bring out their sweetness. I added paprika along with the cayenne and it just took it over the top. I served with homemade pita chips with evoo, pepper and alderwood smoked sea salt.

This was amazing, but there are a couple of things to note;
1 It's more of a spread than a dip- if you want it like a dip, you could add more sour cream. This is a very thick spread.
2 Like other reviewers have said, it's imperative that the onion is really carmelized, and it takes a bit longer to get them there.
3 I cut the onions to be shorter in length so that it was easier to eat.
As others said as well, it's very rich. Very. But incredibly delicious!

This recipe was SO GOOD. I made it to take to my boyfriend's parent's house for the superbowl game. I could not keep myself away from it! It is so very simple. I started to think I maybe had too much onion but the whole thing turned out perfect. It had a nice little kick to it as well. I will be making this again and again and again.

Delicious. It takes far longer to fully carmelize the onions than the recipe says, but worth the effort. The little pop of heat goes great with the sweet onions. I've received many requests for this recipe.

I am NOT onion lover but my in-laws are. I made this for Christmas Eve and it was a hit! Everyone loved it; even my 3 year old. I was so easy to make. I will deffinetly be making this again!
