This is a SURE crowd pleaser. Sweet, hot, oniony. It's just downright great! Everyone raves about it and asks for it at parties/potlucks. Can be used as a spread on sandwiches, chicken breast, not just for dipping. Can be made day before and refrigerated then bring out to room temp to loosen it up and stir.

I just made this dip and it is wonderful! You can cut back on the oil, it is a bit much. I only did a few table spoons however I did use all the butter. If you haven't tried this yet, you need to....it is a keeper!

I had high hopes of serving this to guests, after a friend directed me to this recipe, however, I was sadly disappointed with the result. I followed the recipe to the letter, however, after allowing the onion mixture to cool completely and adding it to the sour cream/cream cheese/mayo mix, the whole mix curdled - I ended up with a half bowl full of oil and butter and half a bowl full of curdled milk products! I'm by no means an inexperienced cook, yet I'm at a loss to explain why no-one else has experienced this problem. The only good thing I can say about this recipe, is that after I drained the mountain of oil/butter mix off, I was left with some semblance of a 'sauce' I served with steak - the taste was okay, but honestly, this is one of the worst recipes I have ever tried. Not recommended!

This dip is one of my favorite appetizers to share with guests. I am often told how wonderful the chunks of sauteed onion are throughout the dip. Ina is my favorite cook on Food Network, and I would expect nothing less from her.

Seriously addictive stuff! Love the cayenne, good with even a tad bit more too. Everyone goes wild for this dip.

I just made this for the third time, this time with a few modifications: fat free sour cream, fat free cream cheese, half the butter and oil...and it still tasted great.

The recipe for the carmelized onions is, by itself, fantastic. And of course, the dip is wonderful too. I thought it was a little heavy on the oil/butter. As a result, when I added the onions to the other ingredients, it made the entire dip a little greasy. Next time, I'd drain the onions before adding that mixture in. Otherwise, wonderful recipe.
