This dip was so easy and delicious! I made it for New Years Eve and everyone just about licked the bowl clean.

Very easy to prepare and delicious. The cayenne pepper adds just enough spice the dip.

This is a fantastic recipe for a party. I served it with crudite and I never thought I'd see vegetables disappear so quickly. I would recommend the tip to drain off the excess fat and pat the onions dry. The onions were quite greasy after I carmelized them. Very tasty dish.

I have tried to carmelize onions before and I guess I wasn't cooking them down long enough because they never got that beautiful dark brown color and taste. This time I just kept cooking them and after 40 minutes they were perfect. This dip is really yummy and guaranteed to add a few pounds because you can't stop eating it. I added a couple cloves of garlic and the smell and taste was really exceptional.
Ina my husband is so happy that I am finally learning to cook. Your recipes have been paramount to his bulging tummy!

You cannot compare this to anything you can buy at the store or deli. It's rich and delicious with such a unique flavor. Everytime I make this it disappears immediately. Careful though, this and a bag of potato chips in front of the TV and next thing you know..it's gone!

Ina's recipe is addicting! I've made this dip many times and it always goes fast! With chips, crackers, veggies, it's wonderful. I like the sweetness of the carmelized onions. So, I like to use vidalias or maui onions for added sweetness. This helps to balance the spiciness of the cayenne. I also cut the onion pieces a little bit smaller. It's not so messy for the roaming party person at the appetizer table.
I've tried it with low fat cream cheese and low fat sour cream and full fat mayo. It still tastes good to me and it still goes fast. I wouldn't skimp on the mayo part.

I agree with another reviewer--cut the onions smaller.
I love hot food but the cayenne was a bit much, not so much because of the heat but it took away from the sweet mild onion taste.
I will make this again though. Delicious! This makes A LOT of dip. Next time I'll cut in half. Love all of Ina's recipes!
