A friend brought this dip over for a dinner party and it was awesome, huge hit. I will definitely use this recipe in the future.

This is a wonderful recipe! I actually whirl mine up in a food processor with 3/4 of the onions, stiring the remaining onions in at the end, for a smoother dip. Works well on veggies and chips. Perfect make-ahead dish for parties.

There is one word for this dip...sinful! This is one of Ina's many food gifts to the world. It is so addicting and I can't wait to try it on a panini or burger as someone else suggested. Sit down with this dip and bowl of chips and go to your happy place!

OMG, this is the best dip! Super simple to prepare. Rich, creamy and delicious. I'm not sure why anyone would buy onion dip ever again after trying this. The cream cheese adds some extra sweetness that some may find to be a bit much (I however, love it. If you don't like sweet, just omit the cream cheese. It will still taste fabulous!

This is the BEST onion dip I've ever had. The first time I made it I was out of cream cheese and was too lazy to go to the store for more so I left it out. It was just as good without the cream cheese and the consistency was softer. I made it the next time with the cream cheese and I have to say I liked it better without so now when I make it for parties or myself I leave the cream cheese out.

Very good! You can see a picture and my thoughts of the recipe at jessica-thebookcook (www and dot com after.

I only made a few minor changes. I caramelized the onions for 10 minutes on medium heat like you said, but then I continued to caramelize on low heat for 50 minutes instead of 20 (to make them REALLY good. I used reduced fat sour cream and cream cheese, but full fat mayo, and it was still decadent.

This is seriously delicious. Once you make and serve this dip, you will never use a packaged dip again. It's very easy and I find the packaged dip has a tendency to be a bit salty. I made only two "changes" if you can consider them as changes. I did not mix the butter/oil into the dip; instead, I scooped out the onions and mixed them with the dip base. Also, I did take another reviewer's suggestion and chopped the onions just a bit, meaning that I probably ran the knife through the sliced onions about 5-6 times. Just made the pieces more manageable. If you have any hesitation -- don't. It's delish.
