I tried this recipe on recommendation from a friend who said it's always a hit at every party she takes it to. I followed the recipe exactly, and it was perfect! I went to a ladies night out, and everyone loved it, and my husband and teenage son-my taste testers- loved it as well! I drained out most of the oil/butter before adding the onions to the dip, and in the video recipe I noticed Ina uses a food processor to pulse the ingredients together. I don't have one, so after cooking and cooling I chopped the onions smaller (so it wouldn't be as messy to eat, and mixed all the ingredients with my hand mixer. Delicious! Store bought dip will never give you this amazingly sweet onion flavor!

I found this easy to make and quite good. It was devoured at the party. However, I thought it tasted pretty similar to storebought french onion dip.

Delicious! I used Olive Oil and I Can't believe it's not butter instead. Definetly a Keeper!

I have always enjoyed the Barefoot Contessa's dishes but this was a huge disappointment. I followed the recipe to the letter and had a couple of friends over to taste. We all agreed, this is not a keeper.
    Sorry

I used Olive oil instead of Vegetable oil and I substituted the butter for I can't Believe it's not Butter and Red onions for Yellow onions. Yummy!!!!

Slowly browning the onions to a caramelized state is the answer to why this is the best onion dip I've ever eaten. The saltiness of potato chips are the perfect accompaniment. It was a huge success at a Super Bowl party.

Really great dip! I added some cooked bacon to it and made it even better! I also did not include the butter/oil into the cream cheese mixture....I only cooked with it and strained the excess oil & butter on a paper towel to cool. Served really well on crackers because it is pretty thick. I will definitely make it again!

The best onion dip recipe I've tried. I catered a small event last year and served this with kettle chips - it's been a hit ever since.

Really good. I would use a little less mayo next time. Also, use the leftover dip as a sauce for turkey burgers- I can't even describe how great it is!
