AMAZING!! This dip is seriously delicious. Its totally worth the extra effort to pan fry the onions and follow this recipe. The taste is like nothing I have ever experienced. It will not last long at your next party, because your guests will devour it and ***** the bowl clean. Must try!!

AMAZING!!!!!!!!! I got this recipe from Ezra Poundcake (love her site!!!!. The only adendum: it take much, much longer to properly carmelize onions than 20 min! More like 2 hours!!! I've made this about 10 times. YUM YUM!

It's sublime. You'll guard the bowl to make sure everyone knows you made it and to keep shoveling it into your mouth.

Have made this dip many times.. no one can stay away from it! You might want to double the recipe.

My step-daughter (Cathy Shaifer introduced me to this dip and it is one of my all- time favorites. I do chop the onions rather than just slice them, it makes the dip sit on the chip better. It takes a little time, but it so worth it! Thanks Ina and Cathy.

I made this for the first time for a cocktail party. Even though I followed the recipe exactly, it came out too rich and too sweet. No one ate it. If I try it again, I think I'll use more pungent onions and leave out the mayo. This is the first time I've made an Ina Garten recipe that I didn't like. Usually everything I make of hers gets raves.

I'm always asked to bring this dip to neighborhood gatherings - everyone loves it. Have plenty of regular potato chips on hand! Last time I made it I was out of plain cream cheese and substituted 4 ounces of cream cheese with chives/green onions. It was a great substitute.

This recipe is so amazing. I love, love, love it. It is a little bit of work doing the onions but so worth it. I drain them too or else too greasy. But OMG. Ina love you for life for this one! Going to bring it to a party tomorrow night. So can't wait to go home and make. Lets pray I don't have to make it twice since I may eat it all before the party. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

It was very very good. I did alter the recipe a little. I added a splash of white vinegar to the onions and used much less butter and oil that the recipe said and I also strained them before I added them to the dip, too oily for me. But otherwise a great dip for parties.

I made this for Super Bowl. It is so easy to make, just be patient in carmelizing the onions, it is well worth the extra time. The taste is much better then any onion dip you can buy or make. I didn't have cayenne, but had some ground red pepper (same thing to me. Make sure, if you refrigerate this dip, you let it stand at room temperature. It needs to be served at room temperature. Everyone at the party just loved it. My granddaughter loves carmelized onion, and just thinks this dip is perfect.
