This stew is THE BEST!!! The bacon and sun dried tomatoes are the differentiating factors in my opinon. They don't jump out but they make all the difference. It does take me about and hour and a half prep time before I put the finished product in the oven to stew for 2 hours, but it's worth every second. I read a review online that said this recipe isn't worth the time, but I couldn't disagree more. (That person was probably not making it correctly or skimped somewhere I make it every time I need to feed a group of people and it's so well worth the time and effort. You'll be hearing compliments for weeks on end, believe me. I love the Barefoot Contessa and resort to her expertise and recipes every time without fail.

Easy, I wanted something different then my traditional beef stew. Kicked it up with this, my only stray was I used homemade beef stock, Italian sun dried tomato and gluten free flour. Can't wait for leftovers tomorrow. Another huge hit.

It tasted great! I wanted to try a different beef stew recipe. I will make this again, but would use a better wine instead of a cheaper one. It did take longer than what it described. I would say it is a medium in difficulty. Thank you Ms. Garten!

I've made this many times since Ina first shared the recipe. It is the BEST stew I've ever made. The meat falls apart and the veggies and broth are so flavorful. Very easy to make and very impressive for dinner parties also.

OMG!!! Wow, this is the best beef stew ever. It's so delicious, it doesn't even seem like "beef stew" is a fitting term. The depth of flavor is just incredible. Rich, earthy, mmmmm. I've read some of the reviews and am stunned that anyone couldn't think that this is just wonderful. I followed the directions to a tee (except that I only had yukon gold potatoes. I don't really like beef stews that are tomato based because, to me, it tastes like vegetable soup with beef chunks. In this delish stew, I loved the addition of the sun dried tomatoes (which is weird because typically, I don't like them, just a very mild tomato flavor. I just ate two bowls and I couldn't eat another bite. It is just that delicious!

I followed this exactly (used only 1/2 of the meat though. I forgot to put the frozen peas in after cooking (I knew I would, but it still came out wonderful

I just thought I made a good stew. I tried this, and will just throw away my old recipe. This was easy to make, texture was perfect, color was rich looking and the taste was out of this world. My husband and I are not big on mushrooms, so I eliminated them. I will make this again and again. Thanks Ina.
