perfect beef stew...every time! Only problem is that when freezing, while the flavor is always there, the texture is a bit strange.

Incredibly easy to make and and so good. Made it for my family while I was home from college. It can get a bit pricey but you don't want to skimp on the wine. As long as it's a wine you'd enjoy, this recipe is about fool-proof. Glad I tried this.

I love Ina, and this recipe was perfect for my situation. I have a guest staying with me, and the weather has been so wet and awful -this stew was an exceptional way to warm our spirits! I'm happy to say that my partner loved it too, even though he is a little picky! I accidentally left out the peas, I forgot to put them in before serving, but it was so hearty that no one even noticed. We're already making excuses to have it again!

I didn't have a good recipe for a hardy stew and saw this one on Ina's show. Decided to try it even though we were having company for dinner. I usually don't like to try out new recipes on unsuspecting company but this was a HUGE hit. It was so simple to prepare and that is a plus for me. By the time dinner was over I barely had enough left over for my hubby to have it the next day. This is definately a keeper. Thanks Ina!!!!!

I followed Ina's recipe exactly and, as usual, it turned out to be awesome. How a peasant dish can get to be this wonderful is Ina's magic. Some people thought the flavor was sour however mine wasn't. Perhaps the wine they used was off. I used a low priced but good flavored wine; Hob Nob cabernet sauvignon . And no, I don't own stock in the company!!

Great stew! Glad I used decent wine-it made a very rich, tasty stew. Didn't need all that flower for dredging. Will definitely make this again.

my boyfriend made a beef stew which was not at all what I expected nor did it taste very good. My mission was to one-up him. I have always enjoyed Ina's recipes and thought this one looked like what I wanted. I did not follow the specified quantities but did follow the procedure. I do not drink wine so I purchased a small single serve bottle and marinated my meat overnight. I cooked it the next morning for a short period of time. I was starving before I had to leave the house so I removed it and ate some. It was divinely delicious and I cannot wait to make it again! while the meat did not 'fall apart' the marination made it quite tender. next time I will cook it longer. I highly recommend this recipe. its a big hit!!!

I love this recipe and make it often. The changes I make is to reduce the amount of wine and increase the amount of stock. I also use beef stock vs chicken stock. My family loves this stew!

Contrary to what other may have said, the stew was not sour. They must have used a cheap quality wine. The stew was very delightful with slight acidic under notes complemented with a savory rich upheaval of tender succulent beef, fluffy potatoes and sweet carrots. This meal plated four with generous servings and a possible seconds for one. I would recommend this for a family who doesn't have much time to make a good meal, as the prep time is minimal, but doesn't sacrifice the flavor of the meal. Great recipe, it is a must try!

My mom made this for dinner one night. The meat was tender and good, and the veggies were perfectly done. We made some small changes to the recipe(ie how much wine we put in,ectand it turned out good.
