I love pea soup, but the last time I had it was when my mom made it with a pressure cooker. This was so darn close to hers and what I was looking for! From an Ex LI'er

Simple ingredients, elegant taste. One of my favorite soup recipes. All of Ina's recipes are fabulous.

This is the second time I have made this soup. This time, I added applewood smoked ham when I added the second batch of peas. Very good. My husband and kids loved it too! Will make again--this is perfect on a cold winter evening.

This is a wonderfully simple and delicious recipe! My family, husband and 3 boys under 10 LOVED IT!! I did add about 2 cups of chopped ham to it, but it would be just a good without it. We finished the first pot in a day and they already want it again this coming weekend!

Having developed some food sensitivities that make it difficult for me to eat ham, I've been trying various "ham-less" recipes for split pea soup. This is the best I've found. Very flavorful and thick. I'll definitely be making this again.

Easy prep and wonderful to eat! Great for a cold, winter day. It was an instant hit at our house and I'll be making this again. Try it - it's great!

Found Parker's recipe a few years ago in our local newspaper. My mom never made split pea soup; however, my husband's mom did. I never ate it. When I made Parker's, I gave it an "E" for excellent since my hubby really enjoyed it. Two years later, to date, in fact, I made it again and added ham. My hubby loved it. My hubby does not like a lot of pepper so I did not put in what it called for and then he said that it could use some more pepper. did I flip? yes!! and added a little more. I only eat it by the teaspoonful from the pot and I can truly say that I really enjoyed it.

This soup just doesn't have enough flavor. Not even close. I like the addition of potatoes and I like the thick texture...but, in my opinion, it just isn't a good recipe for split pea soup. There are better recipes for split pea soup out there. Try it and you will see for yourself. I am not sure where the other positive comments are coming from but I am a good cook, from a family of excellent cooks...

It turns out a little on the thick side but I just add some water back in to dilute it a little bit. Also, I cooked the second half of the split peas a little longer because they were a little hard to the bite leaving them in for the recommended time.
