This was very good. I personally liked the firmness of the peas that were put in after the first 40 minutes, although my boyfriend doesn't, so if we eat this again (assuming he will like it tomorrow night for dinner, then I would put all of the peas in at the same time. Also, I added pork to the recipe.

This is an easy and tasty meatless version, but next time I'll add all the peas at the beginning. My husband and I were not partial to the crunchy peas. Will definitely try again with that adjustment.

Could not be more perfect. Ina, you're awesome I am serving it with croutons and grilled cheese and tomato on rye for dinner. I don't understand people cooking peas and not soaking them all night or let them cook for a long long time and then complain they were hard. HELLO

A home run recipe! Delicious, great texture. Even my husband who is skeptical of split pea soup raved about it.

Have made this several times - delicious and easy. Tastes like it is bad for you, but it's not! Freezes well.

Delicious. Added a smoked ham hock in at the beggining and then some leftover ham chopped at the end. It was hearty and satisfying with lots of flavor. Make sure to get the no soak type of split peas

So Tasty,AND so EASY to prepare. I can't believe how thick the consistency came out- just the way Ilove it! Never thought I would ever be able to prepare a good split pea soup! This was beyond GOOD!

I've been making this soup for years. I add an additional 2 cups of broth and started to use an immersion blender to puree the soup a little bit. It is still the best split pea soup and my family loves it.
It also freezes well.

i just made this with red split lentils instead of peas and it was awesome. it did get thick and pasty after sitting for a while but i just added more water as needed. really tasty. also added chopped ham left over from christmas and it was perfect.
