Absolutely delicious! I added celery, a bay leaf and some parsley. I also made Ina's parmesan croutons to go on top. Loved it!

I usually make California Pizza Kitchen's Sedona Split Pea soup, but thought I would give this a try as there is no pureeing involved. It was worth it. Ended up being very easy, and a delicious change of pace. Made recipe exactly as stated, and it turned out great!

So good! I added celery, parsley, bay leaf, and ham bone (while cooking. Then removed the ham bone, pureed half the soup in my Vitamix and added back in. Then I put some diced ham in the soup. Made some bread in the breadmaker. Very excited to have this for my family tonight.

This is the best split pea soup EVER! Just the right consistency and taste. Wow! I added a lot more chicken broth since it was getting very thick and i like the consistency to be right in between. Ina you have created a recipe i will be using time and time again! Can't wait to make big batches of it to distribute to family and friends and consider it my meal all week long. So easy to make, just follow the instruction as is. By the way, this meal will keep you full. It has a ton of fiber, protein and iron. Nothing more needed... perhaps a small green salad. Other than that, healthy and a delightful meal!

This was AMAZING even though I didn't add ham. My mom told me to make DOUBLE and she took it to work for lunch for weeks and never got sick of it!

This made a really nice dinner, paired with a salad. I added extra diced potatoes and extra carrots, and some diced celery - all of which I needed to use up. I used 4c. chick broth (all I had on hand, and 4c water. I was worried that playing too much with the ingredients/proportions would ruin it, but it still had a very nice classic pea soup flavor. I also did not puree the soup. After it had simmered a long time, the split peas had really become very creamy and the soup had a soft, just slightly chunky texture. Perfect for us. (Oh, and as other reviewers have pointed out, it does make a lot of soup - meals for days, with not much work on my part. YAY!

Love this soup. I reduced the recipe in half and added all the peas at once. My husband loved it. I great winter warmer. So much flavor.

Very tasty and hearty for a cold evening. I had some ham on hand so I added some cubed ham with the onions. Excellent!

Flavor of this split pea soup was great! Be warned though, this soup does not liked to be pureed, because the potatoes added too much starch and the soup went a bit too thick. Other than that, great recipe, also worked well with ham!
