Excellent! this will be my new go to pea soup recipe. I'm trying to eat healthy, mostly vegetarian but yummy food and this fits the bill. I did not have potatoes but I honestly did not miss them. Some reviewers said they had to cook the peas for a much longer time and that they were still not soft, but I did not have any problems. Sometimes dried peas can be old and then they may not soften? I used Knorr Chicken flavored bouillon to make my chicken broth (if you do that, leave out the salt given in the recipe or it will be too salty and it made for an excellent soup coupled with Ina's ingredients.

Excellent soup! I've made split pea before, but always with ham. We didn't miss the meat one bit. It was fast and thick and delicious for the entire weekend. Nice and low fat, too! Loved the crunchy peas--it was different. Thank you, Ina! :

This was absolutely delicious! I can't figure out where the wonderful flavor comes from bec there are such mild, simple ingrediants. Anyway, I made a pot and have had it all week for lunch with a crusty roll. So delicious, healthy, and easy to make!

I love this soup and have made it for years. My 12 year old son asks for this soup. It is so thick and yummy and easy to make. Perfect for a chilly night. I add some ham since my son loves ham.

Really like this, I blended half the soup to make it creamy with some chunky texture. Very nice.

I had a big ham bone and wanted to make spit pea soup so I chose this recipe. It was easy and smelled so good cooking on the stove top. I love soup with lots of vegetables in it and this one did not dissappoint! I managed to save one large container to keep in the freezer for now, we'll see how long it takes before we have to eat it!

This is by far the best split pea soup recipe. I don't care for the crunchier peas, so I add all my peas at the beginning and cook them all the way through. It's so good by itself or with bacon, ham or a ham hock.

This is a definite "do over" in our house. I did do a few things differently. I used bacon grease (in stead of EVOO to cook the onions, garlic, and oregano to give it a meaty flavor. I also had to cook it the 2nd time closer to an hour to get the peas tender. We also served Smoked Sausage (cut and sauteed on top as well as some baked cheese toast. It was so yummy and my husband really liked it (which is saying a lot.
