I did not use the recipe for the pesto. I figured its the same as purchasing it in the store. If you want a quick meal or as a side dish, this would be perfect. The one thing i didnt like about this was the mayo. This seems to be a healthy recipe if mayo weren't included. My second batch, i will use a substitute for the mayo. I've found a recipe online for the subtitute. I haven't tried it yet thoug. But there it is... i hope it helps :

    1c. yogurt
    1tbsp. lemon juice
    1/4 tsp prepared mustard
1 hard boiled egg, chopped fine
    1/4tsp celery seed or curry
    1/2 tsp, salt

eat deliciously, and stay healthy! :

Has anyone tried this recipe without the mayo? Is it really necessary? This recipe looks fabulous and i LOVE pesto, but I absolutely do not like mayo and can not cook with it. If it is required to make the dish can sour cream be used instead?

This was amazing! I made it for my weekly potluck with my friends and they all raved about it! I made a few changed though. I served it hot, used whole wheat linguine, added shrimp. I sauteed 1 lb of medium shrimp in evoo and S+P for a few min, then added the spinach pesto and peas then let it heat through for a few min. Added the mixture to the cooked pasta with some of the pasta water, and added half package of marscopone cheese for creaminess. It can out flavorful and very rich... will DEF make again Thanks Ina!!

I LOVE MAKING BAREFOOT CONTESSA'S RECIPES, SO I TRUST ALL HER INGREDIENTS. I DID MAKE A SMALL CHANGE THE 2ND TIME I MADE THIS. INSTEAD OF PUTTING 1.5 CUPS OF EVOO INTO THE BASIL I ONLY PUT 1 CUP. THATS ALL IS NEEDED. THE FIRST TIME I MADE IT THE WAY IT SHOULD BE BUT REALIZED THAT ALL THE OIL WOULD SIT AT THE BOTTOM AND IT WAS VERY OILY. SO THATS ALL I SUGGEST. OTHER THEN THAT THE FLAVOR IS GREAT!

this is simple to make and is delicious. I did make my own pesto, and only used bow tie pasta and some leftover uncooked penne. Great

I have made this recipe three times, and have just received another request to bring it along for our sailboat race tomorrow. It's a great dish to bring to a potluck or event...the majority of people enjoy it, and ask for the recipe.

This pasta salad is very delicious and very portable. You can use Hellman's reduced fat mayo with excellent results. I also added halved yellow and red cherry tomatoes to give this salad a little more color and moisture.

I used 1 pkg of pasta and probably cut back the mayo by 1/4C and it still made a fantastic dish!! I mixed in the sauce until I liked the ratio of pasta to sauce and had abt. 1/2C left over.

I used this as a spread on a BLT and it was phenominal...I think I could spread it on crackers too and it would be great...maybe as a layer on caprese...the possibilities are endless!! Do give this a try...Ina scores again!!

I took the easy way out with prepared pesto and found this recipe absolutely delicious. If you dislike mayonnaise, I can imagine this wouldn't be your favorite, however. This will be a regular in my fridge.

I made this tonight to have ready for a light dinner tomorrow... and filled up on "tastes" as I was making it! It is an amazing salad! I am looking forward to making it again sometime with chicken... and serving it warm for a really great meal! I used 1/2 of Ina's pesto recipe, which was the perfect amount of pesto! Love it!
