These brownies were very yummy, moist and delicious, however there was WAYYYYY too much coffee in them. It overpowered the taste. I, a coffee lover, was still able to enjoy these brownies, but my boyfriend, who hates coffee, enjoyed what chocolate flavor he could still find beneath the coffee, but was disappointed. I am going to make these brownies again tonight, and this time, i think i am going to up the sugar to 2 1/2 cups, lower the coffee to maybe 1 tbp and maybe add a little more peanut butter. Overall, yummy, but way too much coffee :

I made these for the first time last night and they came out AMAZING. Everyone at work loved them. The only change I made was omitting the extra chocolate chips in the batter. I didn't have any issues w/ greasiness - I made sure to refrigerate them. I also thought the amount of coffee flavor was perfect with what the recipe calls for. I used Folgers instant coffee.
For those that want a sweet brownie - these are not it. They are rich but because of the coffee and the unsweetened chocolate, they taste more like a dark chocolate bar - slightly bitter.

I have a whole book of brownies and have tried many of them but this recipe is by far my favorite. I used Starbucks instant VIA instead of crystals and I only used 2 packets because they are strong-the blend of coffee, peanut butter and bittersweet chocolate makes this the perfect brownie for the dark chocolate lover. A glass of good Merlot and it was absolute heaven.
For those of you who overflowed your pans-you have to take them out and knock the pan on the counter to knock the air out of them after the first 20 minutes if not then yes you will have a mess.

so i made the recipe as stated but could not find a 12 by 18 pan so I used a 13 by 18 pan and disaster!!!! The whole thing overflowed smoking my entire kitchen and half the living room!!! Need to use a bigger pan or cut out some of the recipe..not sure. Haven't tried them yet. Hopefully they will taste ok.

Hum-- OMG, these are awesome brownies! I halved the recipe (just 2 people in our household and tweaked it a little for my taste. I did not have an issue with butter/greasiness as some others did. I added a drop of dark rum and a drop of Kahlua, dash cinnamon and nutmeg. Also used half creamy and half crunchy peanut butter and I used mini choc chips for the unmelted chocolate addition as I do not like to bite into little ares of choc morsels in the finished product. Even with all the changes - it was nice and fudgy on the bottom with a thin crispy top, good flavor and oh so delicious!

This is a chewy, gooey brownie that has everything you want in a brownie; deep chocolate taste, peanut butter, moistness...it's dreamy. This is the best brownie I have ever made.

First of all, I love watching Barefoot Contessa and this is the first time I tried one of her receipes. I've tried others from other shows, but I am going to say this was by far the easiest and the most true to what was on the show and in the video (I watched it twice. The chocolate batter was/is incredible! It took longer than 12 mins prep, but, that's because it was my first time. I used a stone jelly roll baking sheet, so, I'm not sure I needed to tap the air out, but, I did and will (its in the oven now and I would have melted a couple of sticks of butter at a time instead of adding everything at once, but, the chocolate came out GORGEOUS! I've made the brownies for my boyfriend for Valentine's, but, these are great for anytime.

I love Ina! Eveything she makes turn out to be the best I ever had and made. The brownies were to perfection. Be sue to use butter without salt and instant coffee. The recipe was easy to follow and even easier to eat.
