You can't go wrong with ANY of Ina's recipes. I almost didn't put in the cranberries...because they were very dry. I shouldn't have worried. They plumped up nicely with all the fruit juices. You can taste EVERYTHING. The orange zest is just the right punch of extra flavor. The only thing I need to do Ina's recipes justice is a bigger kitchen! :

I have never made an apple crisp before. I say this on her show last night and had to make it. I went to the store and purchased the pears and apples, only thing I didn't have oh, and ramakiens. I followed the recipe exactly and it was great. The kids loved it and my very pickey husband just grabbed his second serving. This will go in my recipe box for sure. My son asked for it for his birthday instead of cake. You gotta try it.....

This was super easy to make and tasted delicious! I scaled it down for 2 servings and there isn't any leftovers! I'm going to pick up 2 more of these little ramekins so I can make these when company comes over.

I made this crisp yesterday to serve to a group of young woman soccer players from the local university. Overall, it is very good and was a big hit. The addition of the lemon and orange zest and juice, plus the spices, was a nice addition to the mix.

However, it was much too sweet for my taste. I have found this to be true in a few of Ina's dessert recipe. It's obviously a personal preference because none of the other reviewers here found this to be an issue. I made it with just pears, so that could have made a difference in the filling but even after decreasing the sugars in the topping by 1/3, I feel it also was too sweet.

Overall, it is a very easy recipe and I'm sure I will make it again. Next time, I plan to use just 1/4 cup of sugar in the filling (and perhaps a little less flour so there is more juice. For the topping, instead of 3/4 cup each of white and brown sugar, I plan to only use 1/4 cup of each. For those of you who like your fruit desserts to be a bit more tart, you might want to try this.

Oh, and you can definitely serve many more than eight people (as someone already mentioned. I served seven people and I could have easily served another seven. (Of course, having some left over was not a problem as my husband will enjoy having it with his morning coffee for a few days.

I've now made this twice, both times slightly different. First time I didn't add any berries, but put in more cinnamon and nutmeg, and the second time, I used dried blueberries and only a sprinkle of cinnamon and nutmeg. With more of the spices, it adds a more autumn feeling to the dish, but with more zest, it tastes more summery.

I confess that I was tempted to make my own topping without the suggested oatmeal. I have always had great results. At the last moment I realized that I should try something new. I followed the recipe exactly as written.OMG what a hit this was.I never really bake and this was so easy I can't believe it.My daughter actually hid the leftovers so nobody could claim them before she could get to them the next day.Once again, Thank you Ina!!!

This was good and relatively easy to make. I cut the recipe in half and omitted the cranberries. I also used granny smith apples and whole wheat flour. It may have been better with a different apple and served with ice cream.

I made this the other night and it came out fantastic. I used fresh cranberries though instead and I don't know what the dried ones do but the fresh ones gave nice red bursts of color and a tartness to balance out the sweetness of everything else. I accidently over-mixed the topping though and I think my butter was not cold enough so I threw in a little flour and oatmeal and mixed that for a couple seconds. It still was a little gooey going on but came out perfectly crispy!
