I tried this out for last year's thanksgiving and it was absolutely delicious! The crushed ginger snaps added a nice spiciness to it and also added an interesting texture. It was a complete hit with my family and friends - most of whom are die hard sweet potato pie folks. Ina - thanks for a great recipe.

I really liked the idea of this, and made a few changes to make something I really love. I would definately leave out the orange zest and the rum. I didn't think the flavors complemented it very well. Also, the pumpkin mousse and whipped cream were too similar in density and texture for me, so I substituted the whipped cream for vanilla ice cream. One time I still used whipped cream, but scooped out regular pie filling so it was a bit more custard-like and different in texture and density than the mousse. I think the recipe was a fantastic idea, but needed some tweaks to make it something I really loved.

This is delicious. I tested it last night in preparation for making it on Thanksgiving. I followed the recipe exactly, except with the orange zest which I eyeballed and might have overdone a little (unless you love orange, which I do.That aside this dessert is rich and creamy with a wonderful blend of holiday flavors that all manage to stand out.
I am definitely serving this instead of pumpkin pie this year, and plan to measure the orange zest this time so more of the pumpkin flavor comes through.
Note: This dessert is really rich and my parfait glasses were on the larger side so I am going to try it with smaller, sherbet dishes next time.

I love everything ina--except this. I love pumpkin and it sounded delicious. Made it exactly according to the recipe, but it really fell short. Everyone pretty much agreed it wasn't too good. Most went uneaten. I would just recommend trying it before you serve it at a dinner party, or you may be embarrassed.

I made this dessert last year for Christmas and it was great. I will make it again this year... I was looking for something close to a pumpkin chiffon recipe that my husband likes and this recipe was even better.
It not only tastes great but it is a very pretty presentation as well. It is rich and very satisfying.

I made this for a gathering as a trifle and it was a hit. However, people thought it was a ORANGE trifle not a pumpkin dish. Hmmm...I made this exactly as the recipe states and unless you want a VERY strong (really over powering orange flavor, I would suggest at least cutting the zest in half, if not even less. I will make this again, and add one more half a can of pumpkin and only add 1/2 a tsp. of orange zest. The presentation was fun and over all it's a great one. :
