This is my new favorite recipe for meatballs and sauce. Fantastic! For years, I have been loyal to Giada's simple tomato sauce recipe and usually try to be a bit healthier with her turkey meatballs as well. But, no more! I will definitely be sticking with Ina's recipe from now on. The meatballs were so tender and tasty and the sauce was delicious. Next time, I might simmer a bit longer to thicken it or perhaps add a little tomato paste but I was very pleased with how this turned out. The flavor profiles were great. I used tomatoes I canned during peak season from my garden and also added 1/4 t dried oregano to the sauce. To the meatballs, I first sauteed some onion, garlic and crushed red pepper and added this to the mix. Also, used buttermilk instead of warm water.

This was extremely easy and sooooo tasty, especially considering the simple ingredients. I would prefer it to be a little saucier but it is full of flavor as is. The seasoning is perfect! A little time consuming, it really was about 2 hours as it says, but the boyfriend loved it and so did I. I followed the recipe except I made the meatballs with 1 lb ground beef and 1 lb ground pork... and I made them about 1 1/2 inches big so there were about 32 total.

This was a family pleaser. I think these are the best meatballs I've ever made. Takes a little work to accomplish this recipe, but it is definitely worth the effort. My family believed this was the best tasting sauce I have made as well...Making again tomorrow for my mother who is coming over for her birthday dinner. Sh'e a great Italian cook, so I hope this impresses her...

Wanted to make meatballs and had watched a.m. Ina making turkey meatballs and using jared spaghetti sauce. I already had 1 pd. of ground beef. Read the reviews to get some ideas. Went to the grocery store. Made the meatball recipe using the 1 pd grd beef and 1 pd grd pork. By that time it was getting late so used 3 jars of spagetti sauce with the jars rinsed with sweet red wine. Added Italian seasoning mix, chopped parsley and about 1 Tbl of sugar. The meal was outstanding and the sauce was the best I had in a LONG time.
Next time I might try 1/2 pd Italian sausage and 1/2 grd pork in addition to the 1 pd of lean grd beef for the meatballs.

Ina has really out done herself this time! My family and I loved her Meatballs and Spaghetti. I did change the recipe's a little since I did not have what was requested. I made only 1/2 of this recipe for my family and had leftovers. I used 1 lb. of Ground Beef and used dried parsley for the meatballs. I also baked them in my oven for 35 or 40 min. Later drained them and added them to the sauce. I already had a jar of a popular spaghetti sauce on hand so, I just added the Chianti to it and a little bit of Italian herbs, 1 small can of tomato paste, a little sugar and a cup of water and simmered it for 15 or 20 min. on low. My family likes the little bit of sugar to help break up the acid from the tomatoes. Thank you Ina! You struck a homerun with my family.
