I loved the presentation of this recipe but the taste did not agree with my palette. My husband on the other hand absolutely loved it.He found the crunchiness of the walnuts was offset perfectly with the tenderness of the pears. The bittersweet of the cranberries with the pungent flavor of the blue cheese complimented the sweetness of the other ingredients. So though it wasnt for me, I still have to rate it as very good overall.

I only had two pears on hand, so used apples. I had no port, so used sweet vermouth. The dish came out great. My only "complaint" was that it was a little too sweet for a salad and there was a lot of basting liquid. Next time, I'm either going to make this minus the blue cheese as a dessert, or cut back on the sugar and cider and use it as intended as a salad ingredient.

Fabuloso, and couldn't be easier! I laid a bed of arugula and baby spinach on a platter, then sprinkled some blue cheese, walnuts and dried cranberries over the greens. I then squeezed half a lemon and drizzled olive oil over that, and placed the roasted pears around the platter on top of the greens. Guests scooped up a pear with the greens for a Lovely salad. Will Definitely make again.

This is one amazing recipe! I used Madeira instead of port. It worked really well. My husband said this was like something you would get in a fancy Paris bistro! Simply delicious. Thanks Ina! Love your recipes and your show :

Just fabulous...delicious as a first course for an elegant dinner party, or easy enough to make for 1 or 2 with everyday ingredients. Buy the pears a few days ahead so they are perfectly ripe and delcious. Looks SO beautiful on the plate and always a pleaser for young and old. Thanks Ina

This was great! I didn't have any alcohol, so I just left that out and added two more tablespoons of cider. I substituted feta for the blue cheese (hubby doesn't care for it, and it was great. I would like to try it with the blue cheese in the future, bc I think it would add a nice bite, but the feta is soft and tasty. This was definitely the seller for my dinner party.

I plated a rectangular serving platter with the arugula, lined the pears up the center, and sprinkled the excess feta, cranberry, and walnut mixture along the sides. Here's a pic: http://yfrog.com/6zgy6ij

    Will definitely make again!

Delicious. Festive. Easy. These can be served alone or with a salad. It is sweet and can be a great compliment to the right main dish. I ended up with extra stuffing.

This recipe sounds so awesome! I just wondered if the cheese could be replaced with another kind of cheese other than the blue cheese? I am a cheese lover but not when it comes to the blue cheese. I know I would probably rate this recipe with a 5 star if you like blue cheese. I was thinking of maybe feta cheese? Your thoughts???
