this soup was quite good. i was afraid that maybe it was going to be too much salt or that all the basil would be overwhelming but it was perfect with the quantities given. i used an immersion blender to mix and there were no problem with tomato skins. i had a couple of bowls and was enjoying it until it hit me that i was eating a bowl of pasta sauce. other than that it's fine.

delicious soup!!! i made it with 3 different types of tomatoes (the ones i had in the fridge and it was excellent!! makes the house smell really good when you roast the tomatoes...
I put the soup in the blender at the end and then cooked it for another 20 mins. extremely flavorful and easy to make!

Used all fresh tomatoes from the garden. Pretty much followed the recipe except I didn't have that much basil or thyme in the garden. So I used 1/2 cup basil and some fresh oregano and marjoram. Also, used a blender instead of a food mill. Awesome! I didn't even think I liked tomato soup.

Had a ton of tomatoes from Grandpa's garden to use up. So, I used a lot of them to make this soup. Wonderful soup! Easy to follow directions. Great taste exactly like it is. Grandpa and Grandma (they're in their 90's! loved it. So, did my immediate family. Thanks for a great recipe!

Okay, Peeps!
I made the soup yesterday. Thought: What are these people talking about; i.e. easy. Roasting....chop, chop, chopping! Cooking. Food processor. Why - oh why didn't I make Ina's White Bean with Rosemary (WHAT a winner! On top of it all....I was disappointed with the tomato soup. (Hate when I spend $$ and time and it's not what I expect. Thought the amount of red pepper flakes was too much. However, I decided to reserve judgement until it sat overnight...although I never even wanted to taste it again. BIG DIFFERENCE. Ummm! In my opinion, this soup needs time for all the flavors to blend...not too much red pepper flakes. Ina - I LOVE you! P.S. Guys, make the Lemon Yogurt Cake. Now THIS is what I call easy. First time I baked it...in fact, first time I did a cake from scratch. Took it to a dinner party this week. There were 2 small pieces left. The hostess called ME in the morning to say she and her boyfriend polished it off @ breakfast...and would I please make it again? : !!!!!

I looked at several similar recipes before deciding on Ina's. She never fails. This is super easy to make and full of flavor. I made as written and it doesn't need any changes. Thanks, Ina, for another great recipe!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this soup. I've made it 4 times in 3 months. It is the best! Now I use hot house tomatoes intead of the roma and it gives the soup a slighlty sweeter taste. Also I peel off the tomatoes skins and squeeze out the seeds to get a more smoother texture. This by far my favorite Ina recipe. Thanks!

I am a big fan of tomato basil soup and decided to quell my cravings and make this for the family tonight. Wonderful! I followed the recipe exactly and ran it through the blender before serving. It is safe to say that I will make this again! Thanks, Ina.
