My husband is a big tomato fan and this hits the spot. This soup is sophisticated and delicious AND simple to make. We had it cold because the weather has been so hot, but for a little protein, I threw in some poached shrimp. It was great hot and great cold. It's sweet from the tomotoes and basil, and rich from the olive oil, onions, and garlic - the perfect combination. I can't wait to serve this for a dinner party.

I love making this soup because I feel I'm getting a bowl full of wonderful fresh ingredients - and it fills me up.
For dinner parties, one recipe is a great soup course and the flavors go well with any Italian dinner.

This is a fantastic recipe. I've made this twice in 2 months- which never happens. I can't think of anything I'd change or add. Glad to see from other posters that it freezes well, I'll try that next time.

This recipe was awesome. I made it for my family and they all loved it. I used roma tomatoes and it turned out great. This dish is simply excellent.

Love this soup. It's a classic. I plan to make it again and again. I wouldn't change a thing.

I was looking for a new recipe for a dinner part so thought I would test this one out at a soup contest at work. I won 1st place overwhelmingly. I can't wait to serve it at my annual Valentines Dinner.

I was very excited about making this soup, as Ilove great tomato soup. I kept adding tomato paste to make up for the lack of fullness in the soup. It was probably due to the poor quality of roma's available. Regardless, it came out great and I will make it again. It is also beautiful and hearty looking. A great winter soup.

This is without a doubt one of the best soups ever. I make it for family and friends and it's always a hit. It freezes well...just reheat and serve!

I enjoyed this recipe, but I did not think that it was as spectacular as some of the other reviews led me to believe. Like one reviewer stated, I felt like I was eating marinara sauce. The tomato taste was strong and fresh, but overall, the soup seemed 1-dimensional. I prefer a more full-flavored soup.

I used to think La Madeline had the best tomato basil soup, but now I think I do. This one takes a little time, but it's so easy. It came out perfect the first time I tried it and since then I've experimented with it every time. I highly suggest you try it.
