So delicious! Used seasoned bread crumbs instead of panko. Just as tasty without Marsala ( I ran out. Flew off the appetizer table. I felt like a chef!! Lots of leftover stuffing. Froze it and made mushrooms again out of leftover filling-just reheat in skillet and stuff mushrooms. You cannot taste the difference.

Excellent recipe! I made this several times for different events during the holiday season and every time, the recipe was a huge hit! If you make this, keep some recipe cards handy...you'll be getting recipe requests.

I tried this two ways, with marscapone cheese and with cream cheese. Both were great, so if you only have cream cheese in your refrigerator, don't fret. However, I personally feel that the marscapone cheese was a little better and smoother.

I used to live by a wonderful Italian market that had the most fantastic sausage, but I moved and was concerned which brand of sausage I should use for this. I tried this recipe a few times, as I mentioned earlier and tried the basic Italian sausage in my local supermarkets (maggio and then I tried it with Wegmans' sausage. Wegmans' sausage was far better.

No matter which ingredient brands you end up using, this recipe is essentially goof-proof!

    Good Luck and Enjoy!

Excellent recipe. I make them for all occasions and everyone LOVES them. I also make them with spinach instead of sausage and they are a big hit, too. I couldn't find the large mushrooms one time and used the smaller crimini ones which even worked better because they were bite sized.
