I'm sure it would have been perfect as written but I fiddled with it. I fried 5 strips of bacon until crispy and drained on paper toweling, and chopped it into bits. Then sauteed the cabbage in the bacon fat until browned, then added some chicken stock to deglaze the pan, stirred in the bacon bits, covered & simmered until tender. YUM YUM YUM We could eat this once a week.

Tasty, I put a spin on it though, I cooked in a cast iron skillet with a tablespoon of bacon grease, sauteed and steamed for a few minutes and added a pinch of salt.

Simple and easy. The perfect amount of butter but I reduced the amount of salt.

My mother-in-law has been making cabbage this way for decades. I thought it was just an old "country" recipe, but then saw Ina make it and I had to laugh. I've also made it many many times, sometimes adding in a bit of broccoli if I have some around - it's a nice addition. Ina always oversalts - watch that. And Ryan Louise, she shredded the cabbage with her knife - you just want about 1/3" wide shreds, similar to what you would use for slaw.

Simple but delicious. I've also made this by sauteeing lardons before adding the cabbage.

Very good. I just wish that there was a photo attached so that I could see how the cabbage was supposed to be cut. (Some of my pieces were bigger than others which causes them to be cooked differently... Overall though, it seems like I did well. With these easy step by step directions; I ended up with a yummy dish of cabbage just the way I wanted it!

Tasty but needed a bit more butter and definitely needed some chicken stock.

This is a great simple dish. I added turkey bacon, onion, and bell pepper for more flavor that would not over power the cabbage. I just fried them into the butter then I added the cabbage. My family loves it!!!!! THANKS

Basic but so good. I add a dash of chicken stock for flavor and to moisten and steam a bit more, and also a few squirts of hot sauce (for me, Cholula!. Makes it a bit more flavorful and you can spice it up as needed...
