My 7 y.o. son and I made these cookies together. We had a blast; spending time together on a lazy summer afternoon. Didn't have the highest expectation - the recipe was just too easy and simple.

Are you kidding me? I've bought some of the most expensive "Scottish" Shortbread cookies for my husband - because they are his favorite cookies of all time.

Well take a back seat this Christmas! Mama and son are going to be decorating these for Christmas and sending them out. Thanks Ina - this has just officially become our families favorite cookie recipe...

P.S. The left over dough became a small lemon tart!

I have not yet made these shortbread cookies, but will as soon as I receive the cutters. For those of you who have been searching for the 4" square cutters Ina uses for her scones, and this 'finger' cutter ~~ go to Cassandra'sKitchen.com. They have both, plus many more tiems. I found this by going to the Barefoot Contessa website ~~ it is chocked full of wonderful information.

Made these cookies after seeing them on the show the other day and they were excellent. Two things that would be helpful if they'd been included in the recipe...
Tony - Ina's doubled in size on the show, too - something to keep in mind when spacing!
Also, she used parchment paper on the baking sheet in the show, seemed like a good idea, so I did it and it worked well

After spending 2 days searching the Internet, I came to this website & under the reviews found someone who had purchased the cookie cutter shaped like a finger for the Shortbread cookies,,after spending another hour I came across it purely by accident...Hope this helps, coppergifts.com,,,Shortbread Cookie Cutter. A total of 9.49 includes shipping...Good Luck, I am excited to find this.

I wonder if perhaps those of you who had problems with this cookie recipe were using the wrong flour? Were you using all-purpose flour or self-rising flour? I accidently grabbed the wrong flour at my grocers, and didn't realize it, until the cake I often make didn't rise. It took several minutes in going over the recipe that I realized I had the incorrect flour. Ina's recipes are usually outstanding. - Marilyn Tampa, FL.

Okay, I want to make these without going to the market. I only have salted butter in my house right now, since I bake only by following directions, can I use the salted butter and leave out the salt in the recipe????? Thanks....

These have to be to best shortbread cookies I have ever eaten. My whole family loved them and fought over who got the leftovers to take home. I've made them twice now and I also have had the crumbling and spreading problems, but they are so good I will definitely keep making them.

My cookies turned out so delicious!! I first roll it out between 2 parchment papers to desired thickness and refrigerate it for 20 mins in the freezer! It come out so nice and easy to cut I had no problem at all! I baked them for 15 min at 350 degrees. I did melt the chocolate in double broiler and low heat and add a little bit of cream to make it thinner. A+++++++

I made these for an after dinner treat. Mine didn't roll out well so I just pressed it into a baking sheet and then cut them with the cookie cutter. They were just delicious. My company raved.

Ok, first off baking isn't my tihng, but since I was in charge bringing desert to a dinner party and had seen this I figured I would give it a try. FIrst off it was SIMPLE to make... The problem I had was, when my cookies were cooking, they doubled in size.... Not in thickness, tho. I dipped them in chocolate. I just cut the cookies in half, which gave me double the amount I needed. But of over everybody loved them...
