Great recipe. They are very easy to make. I have made shortbread mixes that have a chocolate kiss in the center. They would be easy to add to this recipe. Just flatten the cookie out slightly before baking, and as soon as they are done, stick the chocolate drop to the top. A quick dab of colored sugar would jazz them up or some gel coloring in the dough. They are great plain too.

Great shortbread cookie recipe and great with coffee or tea and some fruit on the side. These cookies can go with just about anything.

I made these with my little sister who is 10 and it was a fun, easy recipe that we could do together. We discovered that the cookies would spread out too much and loose the cookie cutter shapes if we made them 1/2" thick. We made them a little more than 1/4" thick and they were much better. Also, after reading the reviews, I cooked for less time since I have a gas oven and was using small cookie cutters. They crisped up the longer they sat on the counter, so I would recommend leaving them on the counter for about an hour to completely cool and crisp up. Very tasty, got lots of compliments!

Spectacular cookies. I made a few minor alterations....reduced the flour by about 1/4 cup, added a handful of raw turbinado sugar and increased vanilla a smidge.Just rolled into logs and sliced. I reduced the oven temperature to 300. Bake time was about 15 to 17 minutes. Watch them closely at the end because they go very quickly from just right to over-browned. Overall a decadent and delicious treat...warm from the oven they are incredible.

Not only is this an awesome cookie recipe, it works great for pie crust and tarts. I cut the dough into strips and put cinnamon and sugar on them. YUM!! Thank you, Ina, for another great recipe.

Loved the recipe! Made them for a preschool graduation in ABC shapes- they turned out perfect for both adults and kids.

Wonderful! After reading some of the reviews, I tasted the dough and added 1/4 tsp salt and another teaspoon of vanilla. They were great! I also rolled the dough into logs and then sliced. After baking I dipped half of the batch in milk chocolate and chopped almonds! WOW!!!!
