A wonderful, delicious shortbread. Thank you for the suggestion of dried cranberries - I will use them for the Holidays. My Grandaughter & I have made these together since she was 4 years old. We roll them into a ball and then stamp them with a cookie stamp. We call them "Stamp Cookies". They are very impressive with the chocolate dipping - delicious, too!
Remember!!! It is 3 STICKS of butter, not 3/4 cup.... that should solve the problem of crumbly dough. Be sure to mix thoroughly to incorporate the butter before refrigerating.

These were awesome! I made them into christmas trees and stars for a holiday party and dipped them in semi-sweet and white chocolate. They looked so professional. They were delicious! I think since my shape was different than the 2x3s that Ina did, the bake time was much shorter. They were done in about 12 minutes...otherwise the tips burned. I did make some at first that were the rectangles and they did cook longer. I will definitely make these again very soon!
My dough was perfect and not dry at all. Sounds like too much flour. Try not to work it too much as adding flour to keep it from sticking can do just that...add more flour. Also make sure that you used 3 sticks (3/4 lb. of room temp butter. Sifting flour makes a big difference too.

Everything from Ina is wonderful!
I also had trouble with the dough-seemed a little dry & hard to roll out. Any suggestions???

Cookies came out great, but I had trouble with the dough. I am new to baking... the dough was a bit crumbly and I had a difficult time rolling it out :(
Should I have added more butter?
Taste was fantastic, I would love to try to make them again...

The first day of the 12 Days of Cookies, and these short bread cookies were featured. I made them and this recipe is out of this world! I used chocolate and white chocolate to dip. Thanks, Ina, for such a good cookie.

This recipe is awesome!! It is my go to recipe all the time for a really good shortbread cookie. Just like Ina I have the used the recipe to make lots of different kinds of cookies. But the original recipe baked, and dipped into white or dark chocolate is the one my family likes the best. Thank you Ina.
