I've made this recipe twice. The first time, I skipped the onions because my husband doesn't care for them. The sandwich was still delicious. The second time, I sauteed mushrooms instead of onions, and the sandwich was fabulous!! I agree, the mustard/mayo adds so much to the flavoring of the sandwich. We used demi-baguettes (warmed in the oven and they worked perfectly. This method of cooking a steak makes it turn out just right. Great job, Ina! More, please!

This is my favorite recipe of all time. All of the flavors and textures are completely, perfectly compatible. So simple but the three men in my family rate it 5 stars. I'm never nervous about preparing one of Ina's recipes for the very first time with important guests coming.
    We love you Ina!

The mixed mayo/mustard combo makes the recipe.

I made this last weekend and was VERY impressed! It was wonderful and so easy! I skipped the arugula b/c my grocery store was out and it was still great! Also, I used Kaiser rolls b/c I couldn't find the foccia bread. I wouldn't change a thing about it and definitely recommend to others! This is a keeper...I will make it over and over!!!

I made this for lunch for guests. Everyone raved about them and it was so-o easy. The sauce has an incredible flavor. I served with a simple green salad and it complemented the sandwich perfectly.

My husband Never cooks any of our meals. So I made select a recipe and make dinner. Boy was I ever pleasantly surprised. This was a wonderful meal even for a non-cook.

If I had fixed this for my husband early on in our relationship I'm sure he would have proposed sooner. This was awesome. The blend of a good steak with onions, mustard mayo and the arugula was just perfect. A special occasion treat. Thanks, Ina, you are a master at your trade indeed. Simply FABULOUS!!!

I have made these several times - very easy and they are the best steak sandwiches I've ever eaten! Great for when company comes for lunch, too!
