I fell in love with the Chocolate Chip Scones at Starbucks and when they stopped selling them for a while, I had to get some! So I substituted chocolate chips for dried strawberries, and they turned out quite tasty! I think I'd try to add more chocolate to them though, and maybe a little cocoa or coffee into the dough to bring out the chocolate flavors. Overall though, definitely a good way to wake up!

These scones melt in your mouth - they're so light and flaky, but the recipe does need a little adjusting for flavor. I added half a cup of sugar instead of 2 TSP. The dough just wasn't sweet enough on its own. I also froze the butter before adding it to the dough - you don't want the butter to start melting as you roll it out or manipulate it with your hands. I also had to add a little more liquid(cream since I live at high altitude. You should expect a pretty sticky batter.

I made two different batches from the same recipe: in one half I put in 3/4 C of chocolate chips and then topped with sugar, and in the other half I added the 1/3 C of walnuts and about 1/2 cup of orange cranberries, similar to what Ina did on TV. I also topped these with sugar.

I think they might be even better with a glaze, and I might try that. I baked off a couple of dozen scones from this one batch and had enough to freeze an additional small batch. It make a lot of scones since I like mine on the small side.

These are soooo easy and taste so light and yummy. Make sure you truly diced the Strawberries, or the large bits will be too chewy.

These scones were not as great as I had hoped they'd be. Ina always has such great recipes but this one missed the mark. I made this recipe twice trying to improve it. I found it more baking powder biscuit-ish than scone. They needed something else to add flavor. To me it seemed too bland or something. I adding more sugar and orange zest and that helped but there is still something just 'ok' about these scones.

These are a cross between a muffin and a scone if you ask me because i personally don't like scones , they are too hard for me these are soft texture , i have made them a few ways
i have added almond paste and rasp preseves ,with a conf icing ..huge hit! afew pecans thrown for good measure as well..also i made them simple with just a few mini choc chips also a big hit !

My husband and I made these for breakfast and were not happy with the outcome. Two T of sugar did not make them sweet enough... you could taste more of the saltiness than the sweetness. The dough was extremely sticky and difficult to roll out and the end result was a labor intensive, unsatisfying scone.

These scones were delicious, however, I would add 50% to 100% more strawberries. The only dried strawberries our store had were sugar cured and this element added an extra boost to the recipe. A++ with extra strawberries I think the recipe could be near perfect!

I took Ina's original recipe and altered it by adding different ingredients. I added a bit more sugar to the dough and made a hole in the cut out triangles and added homemade jam to the center. I also added some raw sugar to the top and it comes out just like the coffee houses carry. Very tasty!
