The best pasta salad I've ever had! Used 2 pints of tomatoes but added 3 thinly sliced celery stalks, small can of sliced black olives, and 1 pound of shrimp.

Wonderful as is ! However if your making this at a time when tomatoes are NOT in season, OR you do not have the 4 hrs to let macerate, try placing all ingredients except cheese in a roasting pan, then ROAST in PREHEATED oven to 400 for 25 to 30 minutes. You can turn the oven off after 20 min of roasting Then let the tomato mixture in the oven for 5 to 10 more min. Also for those who thought this was too garlicky try GRATING the garlic finely. Spinach ( FRESH ONLY is a great addition, if sweat in an open pan with no moisture added. Then stir into sauce when sauce is done. I have also tried small cuts of broccoli steamed or added to sauce when roasting...wonderful. If you want it more creamy try adding 1container of Philadelphia Philadelphia brand COOKING cream cheese ( not the regular tub typeto pasts while it is hot.

Very tasty indeed HOWEVER it's best to use a short pasta such as Fusilli - and there's no need to put oil in the boiling water - Italians do it better!
Capellini tends to become mushy whereas Fusilli al dente stays firm. I live on a little island in the Mediterranean and it's a beach staple.

The recipe is easy and, more importantly, delicious. I added halved black olives and artichoke hearts. It made it that much more tastier! Thanks, Ina!

Simply amazing! Ina does it again. This pasta is flavorful and fresh - best of all it comes together in minutes because you do the tomato mixture beforehand. Perfect for a picnic or summer dinner.

If you add shrimp it makes the dish delicious. Definitely try this.

I love every one of Ina Garten's recipes I have tried so far. But, I agree with deejennydodd in that the tomatoes could have added more flavor and been better incorporated. I tried to "fix" it by cooking the pasta/tomato mix in a skillet with some butter and cream until the sauce thickens slightly and the tomatoes break down. However, then I would recommend large tomatoes, peeled and seeded.
