I made salmon cakes this afternoon, and thought I had a bottle of very good tartar sauce in my pantry. Minutes before dinner I realized I had only cocktail sauce, so I turned to Ina as I so often do. I had all of the ingredients on hand, and it was a breeze to put together! And delicious to boot! I'll never buy the bottled stuff again.

I made up some of this sauce in a pinch when I realized I had forgotten to pick up some sauce at the market. The flavors in this recipe are great and now I have absolutely no reason to purchase tartar sauce again. I have made this a few times and the last time I made it I realized I was out of white vinegar, so I just used some juice from the pickle jar. Turned out fabulous!

This is a fabulous sauce! The only thing I did differently was to add about a tablespoon of chopped onions. I served it with Melissa d'Arabian's Salmon Patties (which are the best I've ever had! and it was a hit. Thanks for another fabulous recipe, Ina!

Simply the best sauce I've ever had, had everything in my kitchen, except used Red Wine Vinegar instead of white wine and home made pickle relish instead of cut up pickles. Fantastic flavor. Is now our standard fish condiment.

I love tartar sauce and can say this is very easy and great. I usually always have the ingredients on hand so for me, I am actually saving money by not needing to buy it when I need some. I think the champagne vinegar is the 'secret!'

This was fantastic! I didn't have cornichons, champagne or white wine vinegar, but used instead sweet pickle relish (I drained it of its juice, cider vinegar and sauvignon blanc... I admit I was a little nervous at first, but this just tastes fantastic. Bar none, the best tartar sauce I've ever had. Thanks for another great recipe!

I fried some catfish for a catfish sandwich with lettuce and tomatoes and wanted to make some yummy sause to go with it. I made this sause for my husband and he loved it!! I will never buy store tartar again!!! I didn't put it in the food processor though cause I like mine a little chunky, so I just diced the pickles and left the capers the size they were. VERY TASTY!!! VERY EASY!! Thanks Ina!!

I still have my cocktail sauce brought to me in Atlanta from the best fish camp in North Carolina, but nobody's tartar sauce is as good as this! The capers and champagne vinegar make it PERFECT! Upscale, yet easy to put together. As a Southern gal, I ONLY use Duke's mayonnaise. Don't shortchange any of your food, but especially this tartar sauce, with anything less than the best. Like other reviewers, I also used relish instead of pickles and spicy brown instead of grain mustard.
