This was the most delicious recipe! I made a couple of (minor changes because I didn't have all the exact ingredients. First, I only had one tomato in the house, so I used it along with a can of canned whole tomatoes that I halved and layered in the dish. Obviously, the fresh tomatoes were better, but it certainly didn't ruin the dish either! Also, I didn't have any gruyere, so I used a combination of whatever I had: pecorino, parmigiano reggiano, and provolone and it still tasted delicious. The potatoes came out a perfect texture and my family just devoured it. You must try this dish!

This dish is fabulous. The potatoes are the key ingredient, make sure they are beautiful, fresh and that will insure that they cook evenly with the vegetables. the Fresher the Ingredients makes the dish shine.

I stacked the veggies in a gratin pan, just as Ina did on the show. Not only was it VERY easy, it was lovely and my guests raved. I assembled and baked the veggies for 30 minutes, removed them from the oven for about 30 minutes while I cooked my roast (at a different temperature and then I added the cheese and finished the veggies off in the oven while the roast rested and i got everything on the table. It worked out great!

The casserole looks divine, and I am in the middle of cooking it for Christmas lunch. Only, it does not want to cook! My oven is at 350, and the vegetables are still raw after over an hour; did any of you have this problem ? How long did it take.
I made this dish a long time ago and had the same issue. I am using a pyrex casserole, covered in foil wrap. What is wrong with me?

I have seen Ina's make this several times on her show and it looked so good . Finally tonight i got it together and made this veggie dish and was not a disappointed.unless you count how mad i am that i have been missing out on the great spice of fresh thyme. I really have never used it before tonight. Thanks Ina for a really great dish that my family can enjoy.

I tried this receipe tonight for my husband and me. Not planning ahead,
I was short on time so I used two small oval gratin dishes ( 8.5 X 5.5
bought at Christmas Tree shop. Followed the receipe but TOTAL
cooking was 35-40 minutes vs. over 1 hour. It was fantastic! I can
now cook this during the week. Gourmet! Thanks Ina!

This is a great veggie dish and my husband and I loved it! My grocery store didn't have gruyere cheese so I used smoked mozzarella instead. Love the flavor of the smoked cheese but it was a little chewy once melted in the oven. Also, I used ground thyme and not fresh and it was still good. Next time I'll try to find fresh thyme and gruyere cheese just to see how different it is.

This recipe is easy to make, looks beautiful with all the different colored slices, and tastes "fabulous" as Ina would say. This is perfect for a dinner party or to bring to a potluck - I haven't met anyone that hasn't liked it yet. Very very good, and healthy too!
