    Dish is beautiful and delicious.
Needs to be served to each person, otherwise the true taste of the grilled onions on the bottom doesn't get dished out on each plate properly.

Made this at MIL's house, and it was great! Yes, lots of chopping, but if you have a mandolin, it would make easy work of this recipe. Great presentation and very good. We halved the recipe and it was enough for 4 as a side with no leftovers.

Have made this a few times for family functions. It ALWAYS gets eaten and I get nice compliments on how beautiful it looks. I have to double the recipe for my big family. Love this recipe!

I come from a family of foodies...This year was my turn to host. By the time I got around to the tian it was gone!! I have already had four requests for the recipe. La Contessa does it again!

I made this as a side dish for Thanksgiving and it is so excellent, I plan to make it again whenever I want a special potato dish. I too couldn't afford the Gruyere, but found Emmentaler on sale. You really only need to grate a couple ounces on top for the most unbelievable flavor addition, which makes it more affordable. My family members kept asking "what's that ingredient that's so good?" Buy the good cheese, it's worth it.

I made this for a dinner party and it was a huge hit..no leftovers...I left out the potatoes and used yellow squash instead..thanks again Ina for a great recipe that looks far more complicated than it is...
