I made this dish exactly as the recipe instructed, but it was gross. This is a zuchini gratin right? it tasted more like an onion gratin or something. How can you call it a zuchini gratin when there are 3 large onions but only 4 zuchinis? Maybe here in northern california our zuchini are really small and our onions are really big. If I made this again I would probably use 1 or 1.5 onions and at least 6 zuchinis.

I made this the other night and honestly, it was disgusting. I think I did something wrong because Ina's recipes are always really good and especially anything classic like a gratin. The gratin was so watery. The only thing I did differently was put it in a 9x9 dish, which made thicker that it should've been and maybe that was the problem. I will try again. Was it watery for anyone else?

My husband and I both really enjoyed this dish. It reminded us of French Onion Soup, only in casserole form. :

Thanks Ina for another great recipe. I love zucchini and am always looking for different way to prepare them. My husband who is not crazy about zucchini even like it. That is a keeper.

Made this recipe ahead of time. Some of my zucchini was undercooked...some were overcooked (didn't stir enough and my sauce looked "GLUEY". I was really worried it would taste terrible. But I went ahead and stored it in the frig and cooked it for dinner. And it was delicious!!!

I made this a couple years ago as an alternative to that famous Thanksgiving green bean casserole dish. My whole family LOVED it! I now have to make and bring it every year. I do cut down the onions and I substitute shredded swiss for the Gruyere (hard to find in my neck of the woods. Other than that, I follow the recipe to a Tee. Can't beat it!
