I am always looking for recipes for zucchini and was thrilled when I saw this prepared on the TV show. In reality, I found it too rich. I may have used too much cheese and butter in the topping which may account for the richness. I will do this recipe again, but will cut back on the topping ingredients.

Great recipe for all that summertime abundance of zucchini. Move the dish away from your plate or you will continue to eat it till it's gone. Use good fresh swiss cheese, not packaged shredded cheese. Great for lunch the next day if you have any left overs!

This is a tasty dish, but I left out most of the butter. I just used enough to saute the onions (maybe 2 tablespoons and didn't put any on top at all. The cheese browns nicely on its own. It's a little rich, but so good!

This was really decadent. The flavors melded flawlessly and the simple crispy topping was perfect! I was concerned about cooking the zuccini so long, because I HATE slimy squash! But not to worry, everything melded into a delicious creamy, cheesey dream with the crisp crunchy topping in perfect opposition. This is definitly for special occasions due to the richness, but I can imagine broiling or grilling halved squash, and topping it with caramelized onions, then broiling the topping crisp! I will make this again.

Followed recipe to a tee---I think the addition of gruyere really makes this recipe. Delicious!

My daughter and I tried this dish last weekend and we both loved it. Some prep to do, but basically an easy dish. Since we are both watching our carb intake, I omitted the bread crumbs on top and used a bit more cheese - it was still very good.

We love this side dish! Besides being delicious it looks pretty and guests devour it. I even make this on regular dinner nights - the kids actually eat their vegetables smothered in all that yummy cheese!

It looks and tastes fancy, but is very easy. I look forward to making this again.

Our children [16 & 13] saw the recipe on Barefoot Contessa and wanted to give it a try. They usually do not like zucchini or yellow squash. We first made it this summer for a July buffet. The Zucchini Gratin was an overwhelming success. For Thanksgiving this year, it was the first side dish requested by my family. You will love it too! Substituting yellow squash and reducing the butter just a little bit will give you a great substitute for the traditional southern favorite: squash casserole.

This recipe was absolutely delicious!!! You could also use swiss cheese on top if you don't want to splurge for the gruyere. Also, I used french bread crumbs for an extra crunchy topping and extra cheese! I am so glad to have this recipe!!!
