This was great! This is the first of Ina's recipes I've made, but I?m going to have to start trying more of her recipes. I followed other reviews and only used one medium onion, and substituted fresh breadcrumbs for plain panko but added some herbs de provence to kick it up. I also added yellow squash and cut everything almost half an inch thick, which was a little too thick in the end for my taste. I think next time I might cut them the ? of an inch and roast them in the oven or maybe try a different cut. I also substituted the butter (which I was out of with olive oil. Mmm mmm!

This was good, but definitely meant as a side dish. Paula has a zucchini recipe that can be used as a main course.

I made half of the recipe and usd a lot of suggestions from the other reviews: fewer onions, a little less butter, made the zucinni thicker and cooked for less time. I also added a little olive oil to the butter and a couple of dashes of hot sauce to the sauce to bring out the flavors a little more. The result was delicious, and the zucinni, while cooked through, still had a nice bite to it...it was not mushy. Also loved the nutmeg and cheese! YUM!

I have made SO many of Ina's dishes that are FANTASTIC, but this was not one of them. I felt it was too bland.

Made this last night for my family. My husband and 6 year old loved it. I did cut down on the butter a bit just cuz of the guilt. This one is a keeper!

We love this recipe! It is delicious! As is our nature, we've adapted it. I thought that putting the Gruyere cheese into the zucchini mixture would add more to the flavor than putting it in the topping. I grated the Gruyere on a microplane and it melted very quickly. For the topping, I used half Panko bread crumbs and half Italian flavored bread crumbs mixing the dry crumbs with melted butter rather than dotting the butter on top. We also used freshly grated nutmeg.
With our first time ever garden virtually spitting out zucchini's, this recipe will likely be a staple all summer long.

We loved this gratin. Had our first veggie garden this summer with zucchini and saw this on tv. The flavors were great - we loved it. Definitely a keeper recipe.
