Hate seeing recipes totally changed up rather than simply followed as written, but hey, I had 2 huge zucchini that I hated to waste. Had nearly all except gruyere called for in the recipe, and breadcrumbs. Wanted to shorten time so sliced onions and zucchini in my little food processor thinly. Cooked everything else as called for in recipe. Cheese I used was leftover Boursin garlic spread cheese which I mixed right into the hot zucchini mixture and instead of regular bread crumbs, I crushed large Texas Toast garlic croutons. I skipped dotting the butter on top to save some fat, since I used the Boursin. All I can say is this turned out terrific. Husband loved it. Served it with tilapia I sauteed in lemon and butter and it made for a pretty delightful dinner. I will definitely do this again and will experiment with all kinds of different cheese! YUMMY. Looked just like the picture!

Love this recipe! Already made it twice this week!! Used panko bread crumbs and did a squash/zucchini combo because I happened to have two of each. This will now be my new summer treat!!!!

I made this to take over to the in-laws' house last night (along with a peach cake and some prosecco sangria. My mother-in-law couldn't stop eating it and even asked me to leave her some leftovers for her lunch today. Success! I used two onions, and I salt a bit each step of the way, so it was perfectly seasoned. It went well with our dinner of grilled filet mignon and corn-on-the-cob.

delicious! Only made a few changes, used 4 tbsp unsalted butter, 1 large onion, and reduced salt to 1 tsp (koshersince I had reduced the number of onions. Other than that followed recipe as written. Per another reviewers comments I used 2% milk. It turned out great, I thought the amount of onion to zucchini worked great.

Absolutely loved it. I was watching the episode with Ina making the gratin and thought "hey, I have a huge zucchini in the fridge from my neighbor's garden...." and had nearly all of the ingredients. I use dried crumbled corn bread crumbs instead of bread crumbs and WHAT a difference...the corn bread crumbs gave it a much better texture and taste. Other than that, no changes. It looked fancy and tasted great... simple to make and quick...even better as a leftover too.

fantastic. Not too hard to make and I like that you can prepare it ahead of time then pop it in the oven right before dinner. Went perfect with our london broil.

One of the best veggie dishes I've ever made. I prepared this recipe exactly as written and found it perfectly seasoned. Perhaps the reviewers who thought it too salty were using table salt vs. kosher? I'd give this 10 stars if I allowed!
