It was very bland, but I liked the idea and did what some others have tried by adding chicken broth, a bit more cumin and garlic and a touch of Cajun seasoning salt. I do plan on making again, but with more of the caramelized onions that we all loved. I made my own lentils and added turmeric too. Its an inexpensive meal which was also a plus.

Really enjoyed the caramalized onions - they made the dish. I used chicken broth instead of water and also made my own lentils because I couldn't find canned. great with the chicken fricasee!

A fun and simple dish. I have found to dollow the recipe as typed. In addition, I make my rice or lentils as usual...in their own pot with their own spices/oils, etc. I mixed the onions with all...wonderful. Haven't tried this yet BUT imagine this with roasted carrots and eaten in a tortilla w grated cheese? The recipe seems very flexible for various end products.

if you make it with brown rice and dry lentils, you can cook them together for the same length of time... adds some extra fiber and texture, yum! (I used 2 c brown rice, 1 c lentils and 4 1/2 c water.

I made this rice in an effort to try and get my husband to try Lentils (which he unfortunately opposes to. I thought it was very good, the only change that i made was that i added salt to the rice itself. The recipe didnt call for it but i felt that it needed it for a little extra flavor. Its a mildly flavored rice, no one thing sticks out and slaps you in the face, it is not very robust by any means. That being said, i thought it was great, and so did our friends that we had over. I will definitely be making this again. Oh, and the picky husband even ate it :

The rice was bland. The awesome onions gave it the flavor.

I'm always looking for ways to use lentils and my family really enjoyed this recipe. Instead of plain rice, I used saffron rice and cooked it in chicken stock in place of the water just to add even more flavor. Followed the rest of the recipe and served it with pork. Delish and was good as leftovers too.

I think this recipe is great. I love the added sugar to the onions making a sweeter flavor and a little crunch. I didnt' use as much rice, just one cup instead of two. This dish is very delicious and really easy to make!
