What's wrong with this recipe? My burgers fell apart while I was cooking them. We had to eat them like Sloppy Joe's.

My family thought these were just okay they compared them to White Castle.(I think it was all the onions Not what I was going for but okay. The other thing was the bread crumbs and milk made the meat too soggy. Like the other reviewer mine were falling apart and the only thing I could do to hold them together was use the cheese. I will make some adjustments the flavor was not bad but the texture needs work.

This morning I woke up and had a huge craving for Fritas. Being of Cuban descent and being born and raised in Little Havana Miami Florida, Fritas were a huge part of my childhood because it's something that's sold in every hole in the wall Cuban cafeteria in Miami. Anyway after using this recipe today, I was nothing but dissapointed. Comments like "this isnt a frita" and "I'm still trying to figure out what it tastes like" and "this tastes like trailer park meatloaf" floated around the dinner table. These burgers had way too many onions in them and way too much bread crumbs. Now don't get me wrong, I love onions, but an authentic Frita has about 1/2 of the onions used in this recipe. Not only that, the bread crumbs were so overpowering it made the burgers remeniscent of any meatloaf you'd find in any low income home across the United States not Cuba. Worst of all authentic Fritas have a slightly spicy zing to them and these would be considered as bland as tofu if you were comparing it to an authentic one. I hate to be so hard on this recipe, but considering I've eaten Fritas all my life I know just how wrong this recipe is. Had it said "Meatloaf Burger" as the recipe title, I would have given it a better review.

Was craving a burger and this sounded good. I didn't image a Cuban burger tasting like an American meatloaf...something wasn't right. Based on all the feedback I now see - I would have known.

What's up the recipe's on this show? They seem to be different than what she is doing on the show. They definately don't taste or look as good in reality.

This recipe would be much better if perhaps after grating the onion, we were told to discard all of the juices in the bowl. The burgers barely kept their form and I had to squeeze liquid out of the formed patties so they would retain their shape. I kept thinking - isn't this getting rid of the lime juice that I just took the time to squeeze? Since you want to retain that flavor, I'd dump any onion juices that are in the bowl at the beginning. So...the flavors were great, but the burgers were too wet to retain their shape as this recipe is written.

I'm not used to mixing bread crumbs into my burgers. It was very soft and I barbequed the burgers so they started to come apart. Thankfully, I melted cheese on top which help hold them together & look better. Next time, no breadcrumbs. I tried the freezing techinque from the show and it seems to work good with the leftovers. The burgers were very tasty.

Like other reviews it does taste a lot like meatloaf, but if you have someone with braces or mouth joint disorders in your family, you can't go wrong with this one. It's very soft to the bite. I followed the recipe exactly and had no problems.

I will tell you from the get-go that we made this recipe with ground turkey. The mixture was loose, and did not form well even after refrigerating. (Could be the turkey, but I'm sure the entire onion grated in there didn't help. The flavor was just not a spicy zippy delicious as she is.
I am sure my husband (and I will continue to watch the show though!

Basically it's meatloaf. Not terrible, but nothing new.

This was like mushy meatloaf.Next time I will leave out the breadcrumbs and milk and egg.I wanted a burger texture not meatloaf and certainly noy mushy meatloaf.I like the idea of the lime and grated onion.Luckily I didn't cook all the patties so I will add ALOT of hamburger to the remainder and hopefully save all the meat.(DIdn't she use 1 1/2 lbs on the show??
