I LOVE this recipe and have made it several times! I save the strained oatmeal and heat it up with a little milk (dairy or almond and add cinnamon and nutmeg and swear it tastes like rice pudding! I use it sometimes as my night snack. The avena smoothie is heaven though!! I also use the least amount of sugar (organic as possible. "Simply Delicioso"!

I havent had this since i was a kid. I made just like the recepie listed, except i added in some cinnamon and i did not strain it. I also drank it warm instead of cold. It tastes wonderful warm!! Just like i had it when i was a kid. Wonderful way to warm up on a cold morning. :-Yummy!!!

I made the Avena last night so I could drink it this morning with my family. It came out super delicious! A bit labor intensive when straining cuz it got a bit thick for me. All in all my family really loved the Avena.

As a child I always enjoyed when my mother made me this for breakfast, when I saw Ingrid make this I made it that very same day for my kids and it's a hit with them; my son even asks for it for breakfast before school! I love that it's a healthy drink for him but it is also heavy enough that he can have with some fruits and he'll b good until lunch. I use 1% milk and it is still wonderful.

I tried this as a drink for a light lunch. I halved the recipe and made it in the microwave so I wouldn't burn it. I added about half a teaspoon of ground cinnamon and about 5 tablespoons of sugar. Then I pureed it in the bender for about 1 minute instead of straining it. then placed it n a large bowl in the freezer to cool off for about 2 hours, checking on it every 30 minutes. It was thick and creamy and my friend loved it without knowing what it was.

This was a little more work than I thought, but it was worth it. I have already made it twice this week. I love it! Thanks Ingrid!!!

I love this recipe! However, I have modifed it a bit. I use 4 cups 2% milk and 2 cups water instead. In addition to the 1 teaspoon of vanilla, I also add a 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon to the mixture. Then, instead of straining the oats after it has chilled, I use an immersion blender to puree the entire mixture. I pour the smoothie into individual glasses which I keep in the refrigerator ready to enjoy.
