This was wonderful! So glad he mentioned on the show about the different beers he's tried and found which was the best to use. I always have the problem of not knowing what kind of beer works best in a recipe. Love the show. He's entertaining and even my husband will sit down and watch him. The only other show he ever watched was "Good Eats", so Jeff, that's quite the compliment coming from my husband, lol.

DELICIOUS!!! My husband & son had 2-3 bowls each & it was supposed to only accompany the main dish of French dip sandwiches made from leftover prime rib. The soup was so good it took over as the main dish! I didn't have gruyere, and a wedge cost over $10, so I used Swiss. I made up for that substitution with New Castle ale! Next time, I will use 4 T flour to thicken it a bit more & leave the veggies chunky. All Good!!

Made this as a 'goodbye summer - hello fall' soup supper (my sister provided a summer gazpacho for friends from California who have never even heard of beer cheese soup! I had a lot of sharp cheddar on hand so used that as my solo cheese, and also used a dash of hot sauce towards the end of cooking to add to the cayenne in the beginning. As my fiance had broken the blender the very same morning I skipped the puree and served it chunky style, which was still delicious. So comforting, this will appear in our house again this season.

Saw this & had to try--I had everything on hand.I used Tillamook sharp cheddar & some good gruyere. I doubt this would be as good with pre-shredded cheese. Followed the recipe precisely, & just adjusted for our taste. A little more Dijon & some hot sauce, as well as increased cayenne. Delicious! May serve this 70s style in a bread bowl next time--great "retro" dish, and E-Z to boot!

First... I love the Sandwich King!

So, I was watching this episode and I just happen to have all the ingredients except for gruyere cheese. I substituted some parmesan cheese to cut back the sharpness of the cheddar.

This recipe is AWESOME!! Thanks SK! It is a keeper. Keep up the good work.
