I am a terrible cook and have using this site to improve. This recipe rocks. It's so simple, even I can do it. I've made it several times and has worked out each time.

My son saw Jeff make this on the show, and he talked me into trying it. I wasn't too sure how it would turn out, but tried it anyway. Wow! This was so delicious, I will certainly make it again. The only downside is that it is pricey. I wouldn't skimp on the cut of meat--the filet actually melts in your mouth. Thanks, Jeff! I watched you win Food Network Star, and you've proven you deserved it!

Fantastic! I love the idea of presenting filet in such a fun way. I used herbs and tomatoes from my garden and thanks to Icolosimo's review I took a few more steps to try and provide that pop! First, I "grated" a fresh piece of garlic over the crostinis as soon as they came out of the oven, before adding the smear of gorganzola. I reduced some good balsamic vinegar down to a glaze and drizzled that lightly over the steak before applying the pesto. Lastly, I added some thin slices of medium heat peppers, from the garden, to my tomatoes and finished the dish with that. The addition of a little sweet and a little heat, I believe, rounded the dish out nicely! Do a play on the lobster roll with the rest of your crostini, and you will have the most whimsical version of surf and turf that your guests, have seen in a while!

Hmmmm. Pesto was Fab. Used fresh rosemary and basil from my garden, left off the extra step of boiled garlic and just used a bit of garlic salt on the crostini. But something was missing. Lacked a bit of pop. My husband asked for horseradish, which I provided, but maybe a sliver of roasted red pepper or something? Used thinly sliced rare roast beef instead of the steak, so maybe it was missing fat, but I don't think that was it. Will try again because the pesto was so good, but will be looking at reviews for ideas.

I tried this recipe except I left out the pesto sauce and it was very tasty. I grilled the steak on the outdoor grill instead of on the stove. The bread was excellent then I added the steak. Instead of pesto I used shredded cheese. My husband and I love it and will make this again.
Worth trying you won't be disappointed.
