I had some homemade Polish sausage that my Polish neighbor gave me. I had cut it into hot dog size and frozen it, so I took one out and simmered it in beer from a frozen state until it was cooked. Then put it in a bit of oil and gave it a little fry. I carmelized onions and red bell pepper. I didn't have pickled peppers, so I gave the carmelized veggies a splash of red wine vinegar at the end. With the good mustard and bread, this sandwich was beautiful. I even wrapped it to steam it a little, which really held it together well. I could eat another one right now. Fabulous!!

My husband made these a few weeks ago while we were camping with friends. They were fantastic!! Be warned: sport peppers can be hard to find, so make sure you can get them before planning this dish. We will definitely make these again!

Wow, 35 years later, and I still remember Maxwell street Polish. Kept part of the family in the car, car running. Tough neighborhood, but worth the risk.

More shows like yours, Food Network needs to cut back on the "time running out shows".

Jeff, I love being a part of my old neighborhood, just listening and watching you. Loved the Polish sandwich. Keep up the good work.
As a child, I accompanied my dad to Maxwell Street and remember the foods so well. The Italian stores near by and the Goldblatts where I would get a treat of their waffle ice cream sandwich.
Great job, I have to record your show as I'm still at church at that time.

Nice work Jeff and congrats on the big win ! I used to have an office in the "old" south water market area and am very familiar with Maxwell St. food...Especially the sausages. Hence my open heart surgery 4 yrs ago !! LOL ! Keep up the good work.

Thank You Jeff for an awesome show. I loved that you talked about Chicago being all peoples city. You have made me feel like I am a part of Chicago. Here where I live most people has no idea who Polich peaople are and what kind of food they eat. We do eat more than sosage but you got my point. Thank You

Great to finally get those Chicago food flavors and aromas down here in North Carolina even if I have to cook them myself. Moved down here from Chicago twenty years ago. Record and watch your show over and over. Recipes are super.
