I had no idea that I did not like 5 spice! I eat a wide variety of foods and like just about everything. This was a beautiful soup and I can't say it was a bad recipe. I guess I really just don't like the 5 spice. So if you didn't know, there is a lot of Anise in it and the licorice flavor was overpowering. I only have had it in desserts. So use a different spice if you are like me. I will make it again with another spice?

Love to use spices. I love all the recipes on your videos. I was hoping you had won, hope the Food Network wises up and gives you a show..... salt and pepper are not the only spices around.

I've had two jars of this spice for years and never knew how to use it. Boy am I glad I did. What a wonderful treat. It was so quick and easy to make. It is such a savory soup. I ate it when it was 90 degrees outside! I can't wait unitl it's a cold, blustery day and snuggle down with a big bowl of hot soup. What's next Jeffrey?

Wow - what a taste sensation. Jeffrey, you hit a homeroom with this five spice recipe - so flavorful and satisfying and surprisingly fast and easy to make. My seven-year old son thought it was fabulous! (Of course, he is such a Jeffrey fan, he'll try anything if I say it was Jeffrey's recipe.

This soup was very good.I like making soup, and have a freezer full of bell peppers, tomatoes and other vegetables from my garden. I keep those frozen chicken tenders on hand in the freezer. Knowing how to use different spices in soups and other dishes really helps. You can change the whole taste of a dish and have a better variety of meals by just changing the spices you use. Be nice if Jeffrey had a tv show, my computer is sooooo slow bringing up videos.

Yummy soup! I did cut back a little on the five spice. I like herbs and spices to be more subtle than some do. I tried it as soup; next I think I'll try it as a stir fry on fried tofu shirataki noodles. And crunchy water chestnuts or walnuts sound like a good idea for the stir fry. Oh, and Luana, your remarks are exactly what I'd call "preaching". Just not to the choir.

By mistake, I bought Nappa instead of Bok Choy - but it was still delicious. My daughter also begged me to add water chestnuts. It was very, very good. Can't wait to try it with the right ingredient! :

This receipe is good. I made it last nite and enjoyed it. However, if you have not made this receipe do not comment here. We all liked Jeffrey, but this is not a sounding board for thoes who want to preach or teach. It is a website to share receipes and let all that are really interest in cooking learn from the chefs and each other.
