Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 ounces arbol chiles
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 2 sprigs oregano
  • 1 clove
  • 1 tablespoon black sesame seeds
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Salt

Directions

Devein the chiles and soak in hot water for 30 minutes.

Drain the chiles, combine all of the sauce ingredients in a saucepan, and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes. Add all ingredients into a blender and puree until smooth. Strain the sauce to remove any large particles. Season the sauce with the salt, to finish.

On a hot griddle, with the olive oil, saute the pork until fully cooked. Spread the refried beans on one side of the sub roll. Lay the pork on top of the refried beans, and top with the tomatoes, avocados, and onion. Sprinkle the sandwich with oregano and finish with a portion of the sauce.

I agree with Ale that the person that says Tortas Ahogadas taste like Green Fish doesnt really know about cooking and or his/her skills at categorizing food are poor. I love fish and don't find anything insulting about it. In any event, going back to the Tortas Ahogadas recipe, I think it is a good recipee. I wish a little bit more had been done to the meat ( I prefer to place it in the oven until fully coocked and browned before placing it in the skillet. I've heard of people using a second sauce (tomatoe based in addition. An last but not least, the bread used in the recipe calls for rolls. Emphasis has to be made that french cruchy bread must be used, otherwise if the bread used is too soft it would become soggy after dipped in the sauce and will be almost impossible to eat it like a sadwich.
